2012 President’s Choice Holiday Insider’s Report: Part 1

President's Choice Holiday Insider's Report: Part 1

It is that dangerous time of year again! I received a giant box of holiday goodies from President’s Choice (you can watch the unboxing of the entire box here) to product test. Once again, they spoiled me rotten this year. What sweethearts!

Milk Chocolate with Toffee Pieces & Fleur de Sel

President's Choice Holiday Insider's Report: Part 1

There was a giant bar of Milk Chocolate with Toffee Pieces & Fleur de Sel in the happy box and it was the first thing I ripped opened and tried.

The toffee bits are quite small but manage to wedge their way into my teeth regardless. The salt is definitely present, especially after you have been munching on the milk chocolate for a while. It sort of cleanses the palette.

The chocolate is imported from France and is also available with mint candy cane pieces in it. (I’m so glad I got the toffee!) These giant 300 g bars are only available during the holidays and are $4.99. A great deal and the perfect stocking stuffer. That is a lot of chocolate for under $5! Reg and I both loved it and will be enjoying it for along time.

I give this product four and a half out of five wooden spoons.

PC Black Label Almond Torta de Aceite

President's Choice Holiday Insider's Report: Part 1

PC Black Label Almond Torta de Aceite is a traditional Spanish torte. “… delicate handmade flatbreads with an exceptionally light and airy texture. Inspired by a century-old recipe, each torta develops a unique, slight blistering while baking so no two are ever alike.”

They come individually hand wrapped and considering mine was in a box of various other treats, a lot of them were quite shattered.

I had the almond one with hummus and wow, all I could taste was anise! Not only is anise used, so is natural anise extract. They were also oddly very sweet.

If you do not like anise, you will not like these at all. I found the flavour very overpowering. I was hoping that all I could taste would be almonds but no… just the anise.

They are light, delicate with fabulously airy texture. I think I might have liked the rosemary or olive oil better but if they have anise in them, I am not sure. They are definitely unique and high end quality that will be a treat for those who love this style of food so for you, I give them four out of five wooden spoons and say they are probably worth $4.99 a package. Personally, as someone who doesn’t like anise very much, I can only give them two out of five. I would have much preferred something more savoury and less liquorice-y and sweet. Did not go well with hummus either, LOL.

World of Flavours Maple Bacon Flavour

President's Choice Holiday Insider's Report: Part 1

World of Flavours Maple Bacon Flavour chips are mean. Why? Because I like them too much. It has been ridiculously challenging to only have a few of these and put them away for a weekend treat. They have been calling my name ever since. So good! They are smokey and sweet and absolutely perfect for this foodie. They kind of reminded me of sweetened Hickory Sticks and damn it, I love them!

I only allow myself chips a couple of times a year because I am a chips-a-holic. These are totally worth my shame-filled binging. They are $1.75 a bag and dangerous. Totally dangerous. And I am going to eat them. ALL! I give this product five out of five wooden spoons.

I think the Torta is worth another try, but eaten in a different way then you originally tried. Think of it kind of like a thin, crisp, biscotti or slightly sweet cookie. Try it with some vanilla greek yogurt, or a bit of ricotta drizzled with honey. You might like it a lot better if you think of it as a sweet vehicle rather than savoury. Hummus and anise — i can’t even imagine! LOL.

As for the Maple Bacon chips… all I can say is: Mmmmmmmgmgmgmhhghghg OMG. I have tried them and have since bought 3 (or maybe more… *shhh*) bags. They are highly addictive!

I think it being so sweet is what’s throwing me off Grumblebee. The torta is definitely a high quality product but the anise flavour (even without the hummus) is so strong and having sweetness added to it… It’s just not my thing. As I said, if you like anise, you will like this but if not…

Yes, the chips are so addictive it’s dangerous! Ours are long gone too. It’s a good thing we are getting crappy weather because I don’t know if I could resist buying them if I get to the store soon.
