Ahhhh…Peggy’s…..Cove

Mom at Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

Saturday the forecast called for rain and for the entire day to be overcast and I just knew it was the perfect day to drive out to Peggy’s Cove. I was right! Mom was in photographer’s heaven there and said that it felt like an east coast Stonehenge. I completely agree. Most people just see photographs of the lighthouse by the water when they think of Peggy’s. The energy there is inexplicably powerful and wonderful, so much more than just a tourist trap.

Fisherman's Village

Mom was not feeling up to walking on the rocks so we drove down to the little fishing village and took many pictures.

The colours of the boats, the different kinds of rope and traps make Peggy’s such a fantastic place to take photographs.

It was very cool to see where all that Nova Scotia lobster comes from and be there when there were so few tourists. Usually you can not even drive up to the parking lot because of all the tour buses and rented cars making their way to Peggy’s.

The water was unusually calm, no giant waves that day and it did not rain so we could take all of these photographs with ease. It was the most gentle day I have ever been out there and my Mom loved every second of it. The cloudy sky made perfect photography weather and we did not have to elbow anyone out of the way for the perfect shot.

My mom’s trip is wrapping up now. In a couple of days she will be flying back home. I hope we have given her a lot of happy memories of Nova Scotia.

You know, when we lived in Montreal my best friend, Karen F., used to visit family in Peggy’s Cove every year and she loved it with all of her heart. So ever since I was a kid I had this impression of it as a truly special place.

How wonderful you guys got to go on such a perfect photography day! I’m sure Mom has many happy memories of her visit. It’s been such a treat to be a part of the trip here!

Peggy’s Cove is wonderful in any weather but the soft grey days are gentle and lovely. Those colours really pop.
Your mum sounds like she had a marvelous visit with you, I think you will both be sad to see her go.
