Cooking School for Delinquents Lesson 1 – Chicken Broth

Cooking School for Delinquents Lesson #1: Homemade Chicken Broth

Wow! I am so exciting to announce that Lesson 1 is done! Students of the Cooking School for Delinquents were the first to see it! And they know what I intend to make for the next class with this chicken broth.

The video is just over 12 minutes long and covers the entire process of making chicken broth from a whole chicken.

I even break down the chicken (quite terribly I might add) for you to see how it is done. I have to say, watching this segment with Reg and seeing him squirm and freak out was absolutely worth it. Making real food isn’t pretty but it is oh so necessary and if I can do it, I promise you can too.

Although my mom did share with me that I probably should invest in poultry shears.

Don’t worry, you also have me there with you sharing ideas… to prevent the video from being too serious and boring.

“Love this, Suzie! Realistic is what I need…it shows how it REALLY is to break down a chicken. I like how realistic the rest of the video is. And useful. I have never made chicken broth from a real whole chicken and now I’m eager to try.” ~ happyluauvlogs

This is exactly why I wanted to share these lessons. I remember when I was scared to break down a chicken and make homemade broth too and I promise, you can do it. It’s not pretty but it isn’t hard.

Suzie, I wanted to say again that I’m so glad you made that video JUST that way. Most cooking videos are NOT like that–so (and this has happened to me over and over again) I would try it, and the chicken would be hard to manage and slimy and all over the place and then I’d think there was something wrong with ME and that it was too hard and that I just wasn’t cut out for cooking! So seeing that yes, it’s hard, and somewhat gross, but that I can still do it (even though I’m not strong either) is very encouraging and exciting for me.

I’m signing up for your cooking school. I’m gluten-free, sugar-free, and possibly soon to be grain-free as well, but I’m sure there will still be many things that I can make. Like the chicken broth!

    Thank you again, Olivia

Oh I thought that must have been you on YouTube Olivia! 🙂 I have never been good at doing what most people do and sharing the “foodie truth” is a big part of my belief system so I am thrilled that game through, even with the chicken goo and cracking on bones and the damn cutting board moving (which it has never done before). You can do it! You absolutely can!

My classes are going to have a ton of variety Olivia. I tried to do something more linear but I just couldn’t do it. Feel free to jump into any class that is appropriate for you and ditch the rest. 🙂
