Food Joy

I was at my hair salon the other day flipping through magazines and came across the December issue of the Canadian women’s magazine Chatelaine. I was so struck by the cover: Nigella Lawson, England’s ultimate foodie, and the words, “The new joy of food!”
Nigella truly is the ambassador to this idea, the joy of food. Every episode I have ever watched of her show makes me happy to be hungry, to see a woman so in love with food that every element of it is poetry to her.
The idea of joy of food almost feels taboo, a bit naughty. Every other magazine cover reminds us that we will never be like the models on the cover and it is all our fault because we actually eat so how dare we allow ourselves to eat and enjoy our food?
I like this shift in food mentality. As someone who has felt guilty for eating most of my life, I now embrace food and the joy of making it. We have a right to eat. It is a necessity. Why not make the most out of it? Why not love every second of it? Our bodies produce endorphins when we enjoy our food, endorphins make life worth living and helps our bodies and spirits thrive.
Obviously over indulgence and unhealthy eating habits are a big problem but if you can learn to savour food while maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, well, is there be anything more delicious? Guilt free eating = joy. Yes, I like this new food philosophy.
This foodie is a convert.

That is one thing I like about my school, everyone here loves food! And we don’t feel guilty about it. Food is meant to be enjoyed. 🙂

I just love her too! Her show used to be on but not anymore. I loved to watch. She made me want to love the food i cook too. My favorite part was when they would show her gettinginto the fridge in her robe and p.js for an after dinner snack : )

What a lovely lady! I remember seeing the mag when I visited Canada as a teen & enjoying it – how fun to see it’s still going, & I agree, we need to love our food!
