Sobeys Mystery Box Review

December 11, 2012 by Suzie the Foodie 4 Comments

Sobeys Mystery Box Review

A little while ago Sobeys sent me a mystery box! You can see the unboxing here. I discovered that their paper towel half sheets are quite large and the quilting works pretty well for cleaning mushrooms. Their glass cleaner is very smelly (but dissipates quickly) and their green cleaner has worked pretty well so far but requires more testing. Now, onto the food!

Sensations by Compliments Flaked Albacore Tuna

Sobeys Mystery Box Review

Please Note: My apologies for not having links. I could not find the products on their site.

Flaked albacore tuna in water is always a happy thing in my kitchen.

Tuna melts are one of my favourite quick lunches on the weekend. This tuna was super light, flakey and delicious. And so, well, pink! I give it four out of five wooden spoons. A great basic canned tuna.

Compliments Chewy Trail Mix

Sobeys Mystery Box Review

Many times trail mix bars are not as healthy as they appear to be but this one only has 2.5 grams of fat, .5 grams being saturated. Not bad!

They are not huge but the perfect size to stave off hunger pains for a bit. The raisins were quite fresh (see them glisten) and if you like cinnamon, you will like these. Made with granola cereal, crisp rice, dried apple, peanuts and coconut… Not a bad choice for those who do not make their own. I give this product three and a half out of five wooden spoons.

Compliments Wheat Squares

Sobeys Mystery Box Review

Made with whole wheat and additional vitamins and minerals such as iron, thiamine, vitamin B6 and folic acid, I was not sure how yummy this cereal was going to be for breakfast.

Yes, I had no doubt it would be pretty healthy but would I like it?

So I started off by making my own nuts and bolts snack. I love that treat! I combined 4 cups of the wheat squares, 1 cup of Honeynut Cheerios and around 1 1/2 cups of pretzels.

I melted 1/4 cup butter in the microwave and then mixed in 1 tbsp paprika, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 tsp garlic salt.

I poured it all over the nuts and bolt mix.

I put the mix on a baking sheet covered in parchment and baked in a 275F oven for 30 minutes, stirring here and there.

Delicious! Both me and Reg could not stop eating this treat.

I started adding the Wheat Squares into my homemade cereal mix (which is forever changing) and wow, love it! There is quite a bit of sugar (210 calories in 1 1/4 cups) so there is sweetness to the squares when normally I would have to add sugar. Now I don’t and it adds a great texture and additional fiber to my breakfast which I love. I am totally impressed!

I give this product four out of five wooden spoons.

Sobeys also sent me a gift card so I went shopping for more treats recently! More reviews to come. Thanks Sobeys!
