What’s the best lunch you ever had?

June 2, 2010 by Suzie the Foodie 4 Comments

The women in my family

I have been asked to answer the question, “What’s the best lunch you ever had?” at Favedietsblog. My favourite lunch happened last fall when I got to hang out with the women in my family at Mandarin Restaurant. You will find lots of great stories of food and feasting at their site!

I would love to know what was the best lunch you ever had? Was it the food that made it the best or the people you were with? Lunch is a meal that many people work through and/or rush. Let’s celebrate and honour food in the afternoon!

The best lunch I’ve ever had was about 28 yr ago. My husband and I were then spending a weekend on the south shore. We were booked into The Boscawin’s honeymoon suite; and we lunched on lobster salad served on 2 avocado halves and a bed of red leaf lettuce. I just remember being totally overwhelmed with how delicious the combination was. (And I’ve never been able to duplicate it!)

Plus we were drinking champagne. Perhaps that all had something to do with it. But the lunch was divine.

Sandy, that lunch sounds fantastic! Lobster and avocado, yummy. I’ve had lobster and shrimp before and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Champagne makes everything taste fabulous, it’s so true!

You must have had a blast with the ladies, these really are the best meals, shared with those you love most. I would have to say some of the best lunches I had are picnic lunches with my family. Simple things like fresh baguette, cheeses and salamis some ice tea and cookies for dessert. Eating under a shady tree, with the sun shining and a gentle summer breeze!

Suzie I love Madarine Restaurant and couldn’t get enough of it when I was pregnant… and those warm lemon juiced towels they give you to clean with after eating are heaven. We went there for my sister’s college graduation dinner with about 20 family members last year. My daughter has about 20 of those free laterns they give you when you leave in her room.

My favourite lunch spot in Halifax (if it’s still there) is Sweet Basil. Their lunch crepes are wonderful.
