I hope you have a wonderful Earth Day this Saturday April 22nd! I wanted to honour our oceans in particular this year and say thanks for all the fish. In particular, the tuna. To do so I came up with a new take on the tuna melt. I got out my waffle maker and made tuna taquitos which are unbelievably delicious.
The Inspiration
I want to thank Ocean Brands for sending me a package of goodies to celebrate our earth and sending me their Gold Seal sockeye salmon and Oceans Pole & Line tuna. These products now carry the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) label, demonstrating they are from a sustainably managed fishery.
The Program
“MSC is an international non-profit that works with scientists, fisheries, seafood producers and brands around the world to advance sustainable fishing and to safeguard the health of our oceans. The blue MSC
The Recipe
I choose the GoldSeal Flaked Tuna to make the taquitos with. I added some minced pickles, olive oil mayo, salt and pepper.
I put a line of the tuna salad along the centre of a tortilla, topped it with chopped fresh chives and some thinly sliced Havarti.
I rolled it into a cylinder and then added it to my lightly greased hot waffle maker, like it was a panini press. I “waffled” the taquitos for one and a half minutes.
Happy Earth Day!
Wow! Better than I had even imagined. Nice! I hope I did our oceans proud honouring their bounty with this recipe. May we treat our planet responsibly and help our oceans continue to feed and thrive.
Happy Earth Day, Suzie! What a great alternative use for a waffle iron!
You too Debra! It is amazing just how many things you can make with a waffle maker that isn’t waffles, LOL.
Happy Earth Day!
Great fun with your waffle maker. Love it.
Happy Earth Day Ivy!!! Thank you, whenever in doubt, waffle it!
Yes! I will have to see if my waffle stick maker can handle my wraps. If it does, I’ll snap a picture and send it to you. Also, I totally forgot about Earth Day. Thanks for the reminder.
Yes, please do, would totally love to see it! You are welcome. 🙂
