What a weekend we had! No, I did not have my first bubble tea but! I did have my first tapioca pearls. Blech!
But first…
So I have to brag about the gorgeous February weather we are getting. Yes, let the hate mail begin. Sorry folks, I fought with all my might to enjoy the warmish winter weather and I am going to show it off.
Reg and I went down to Jericho Beach for a beautiful walk, looking at all the rich people’s houses. That is a lot less painful now that I really do not want to own a house, LOL.
So many flowers were out but what shocked me the most were these magnolias in full bloom. Crazy!!!
The big festivities for Chinese New Year were this weekend and look, even Hello Kitty came out to play!
And dragons of course! Reg’s kung fu school performed at Parker Place in Richmond.
Right through the eyes Hello Kitty!
Before the performance I ordered a mango slushy with pearls. And boy, did it come with a lot of pearls.
I had always wondered about these and now I know, I do not like them. It is not that they are bad it is just that they really have no flavour. They are made with tapioca starch and are just chewy flavourless balls. After a while they started to stick to the back of my throat and there were so many, I got a stomach ache. Ack!
It must just be the texture people like because honesty, flavour-wise it did not add anything to the mango slushy. They weren’t even sweet so it was just all too weird. Like a wine gum with zero flavour.
But! I have now tried it which was a fun foodie exploration. I also know I never want to have them again.
I hope you had a great weekend too! Enjoy the dancing lion and check out Reg on the cymbals! His hair is getting so long. What a hippie!
Those ‘pearls’ are disgusting! Many moons ago when bubble tea was all the rage I bought one and after one taste of a ‘bubble’ it was consigned to the garbage!! Just glutinous balls of tasteless nothing!!
Lucky you with the weather. -38 here this morning!
Jenny, it’s true, I don’t get it either. Had to try it but am glad that it’s over. Rare for anything to make me queasy but after half the glass I had to dump it too. Oh man, so sorry to hear it’s so cold!!! I hope you can stay warm!
I am glad someone has sunshine somewhere ! My 12 year old LOVES bubble tea…I find it disconcerting!
The sunshine will be vacating BC soon which is why we had to go out and enjoy it while we could. I can see why kids like the bubble tea, I mean, it’s weird, and kids love weird. Heck, I love weird but I agree Shelley, disconcerting is the perfect word to describe it!
