I was so excited when the opportunity to interview Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar came my way. Music is the first love of my life and to talk to a such a fabulous musician about his foodie adventures was too tempting to resist.
In the interview Gordie answers many of my foodie friends’ questions and hear about the deliciousness of being a foodie in Texas. We also talked a lot about music and Big Sugar’s latest CD YardStyle.
He also shared the rock-reggae band’s food rituals before and after the show.
We discuss our common love of Kensington Market in Toronto and our obsession with Doubles (fried flat bread filled with curried chickpeas).
I teased him a little about how the band is not scheduled to come to the East Coast this summer but he said that dates are being added all the time so perhaps I will get to see Big Sugar perform!
My favourite part of the interview (next to hearing his amazing speaking voice) was his story about the Jamaican in a Speedo that made the most memorable meal ever!
I just want to thank Gordie Johnson once again for such a memorable discussion and hope that we get to hear more about his foodie life soon.
Great interview Suzie! I always love hearing about how life on the road varies from band to band. I should get you an interview with The Real Mackenzie’s some time. :0)
Thank you so much Fran! It’s true, travel and food and music… It’s always fascinating! I would love that. 🙂
Great interview, Suzie! Very entertaining and you had such good rapport with Gordie about foodie things. I laughed out loud at his Jamaican guy in a Speedo story! Plus now I know what “Big Sugar” means.
Loved the interview Suzie. Big Sugar is one of my favourite bands and Gordie is just awesome.
