This yummy Halloween foodie idea was inspired by Purple Chocolat Home. I could not resist the idea of sliming popcorn with ectoplasm! Made me nostalgic for Ghostbusters.
The Popcorn
The original recipe originally calls for microwaved popcorn. I may not be afraid of ghosts but my microwave freaks me out. As a result, I made old school popcorn.
Heat a pot on medium-high heat. Add enough canola oil to coat the bottom.
Add 3 popcorn kernels and cover the pot with the lid.
When the kernels have popped you know the oil is hot enough to add more popcorn.
Cover, shake a bit and wait until the popping slows down.
Your popcorn is ready!
The Ectoplasm
I got out my foolproof Epicure chocolate decorator and filled it with Epicure’s stunning white chocolate.
I microwaved it and something went terribly wrong! This was during the time Vincent Price was haunting my kitchen and screwing everything up so I blame him.
So I tried to microwave the white chocolate in my microwave and of course, it got to the point of being scorched.
Instead of giving up, I heated up some heavy cream, topped the chocolate with it, waited… and then finally it came together.
I added green food colouring paste to the chocolate and started drizzling.
Don’t forget to also add salt! The chocolate is very sweet and adding that bit of salt helps balance the flavour.
I had forgotten how much having popcorn reminded me of Halloween parties growing up. This is a fun and easy idea (if you can figure out how to melt the chocolate) that really is affordable to make. It takes a classic foodie treat like popcorn and makes it special and kind of freaky at the same time.
Despite the challenges, this is one of my favourite new Halloween treats of the year!
I’m afraid I might eat the entire bowl myself. Sounds and looks horrifically yummy. (sorry)
You’re going to have to perform an exorcism or something to get rid of Vincent Price. Apparently he never knows when it’s time to go home!
Sara, that is the danger of making this treat! I had a hard time backing away from it. Who knew ectoplasm tasted so good?
Debra, thankfully after I worked on the video the spooky stuff stopped! I’m hoping that from now on, the rest of the disasters will be my own damn fault. That Vincent is powerful though!
