The name of this recipe is a tad dramatic, considering I only used a pinch of cayenne, but for those who love life hot and spicy, add more and more!
Recently I bought a giant package of nuts and did not realize they were unsalted at the time. I have been trying to figure out what to do with them ever since so I came up with my own recipe for flavoured nuts that would be a great Halloween party snack food.
I made a small batch because I was not sure how much we would like them but this recipe can easily be doubled, tripled… you get the idea. I got two cups of unsalted nuts (I know, they look deceiving salted don’t they?) and put them on a baking sheet. I baked them in a 400F oven for 6 minutes and they got all dark and toasty but watch out! They can burn easily at this temperature so keep an eye on them.
While the nuts were in the oven I put together 2 tbsp of butter, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, 1/2 tsp of chili powder, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 1/2 tsp of garlic salt (I added more later so use at least 1 tsp of garlic salt), a couple of shakes of Worcestershire sauce and a pinch of cayenne pepper in a small sauce pan. I melted the butter over low heat.
Pour over the roasted nuts and toss. Season to taste. Like I wrote before, these needed more garlic salt and I added some regular salt too. If it is not spicy enough, add more cayenne.
I love how they glisten! With all that butter, this is definitely a “treat” of a recipe. Sweet and savory, these nuts are downright delicious. My husband had a hard time stopping himself from eating the whole bowl and so did I.
Not for the every day but perfect for your Halloween party this year. In fact you could add some Shreddies cereal to the mix, toss everything with some pretzels and have your own bits and bites ready to go! We both give this recipe five out of five wooden spoons.
phew! When I read the title I thought “boy! Sure hope she’s not talking about the neighbours!” ; )
If you didn’t add much cayenne, then perhaps “Spicy Nuts from Heck!” might be a better title, LOL! Love all the piratey effort you went to with your photos!
These look delicious! I mean, er, scary!!!
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! I love to make roasted nuts. I give my kids a container at Christmas; have to try this reĉipe.
