Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

October 10, 2011 by Suzie the Foodie 3 Comments

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

My kitchen is completely covered in Halloween foodie tools like my skeleton ice cub trays, my new metallic skull dip dish and the coolest spooky spatulas… It is hard for me to remember that it is Thanksgiving! As a result, I am keeping it simple this year but I will be brining and roasting a turkey breast for the first time.

Homemade Pumpkin Pie

For those of you still searching for something to make for the holidays, here are some of my favourites. First, the pumpkin pie recipe that turned me from a pumpkin pie hater to lover.

Ina Garten Barefoot Contessa's Old-Fashioned Apple Crisp

I made Ina’s Old Fashioned Apple Crisp last year and it truly has that traditional flavour and appeal for those who want to bake with apples instead of pumpkin.

Pumpkin Fudge

For those who love pumpkin but are not interested in making a pie, why not do something unusual like making this unbelievably delicious pumpkin fudge? I was so skeptical but now I am a believer!

Best Apple Pie

And of course, you can not go wrong with the classic apple pie.

This year I am making one of Reg’s favourites: mincemeat pies. I am personally not a fan but I have only had store-bought mincemeat pies so I am making them completely from scratch! I have a bad feeling that is what I am going to be working on for the entire day. Good thing the rest of the dinner is pretty low key!

So for those of you celebrating Thanksgiving in Canada, I send you warm foodie wishes and good luck to your kitchens. May we feast and enjoy the bounty of this year together in our own way.

Hey, I’m a mincemeat fan too! Nothing says “Christmas” to me like a nice mincemeat tart!

Pumpkin Fudge….omg it looks so wickedly good. Hope you had a delicious turkey day.

I think store bought mincemeat is the same deal as store bought Christmas cake, nobody really likes it cause it’s a bit yucky. I make my own Christmas cake and it just doesn’t compare to store bought, it’s a HUGE difference. I have a feeling once you make your own homemade Mincemeat you will love it as well. It’s definitely a labour of love and best made well in advance (but I’m never really that organized to make it well in advance LOL).
