Yesterday we planned to go to downtown Halifax with our friends Kelly & Eric for some Cows ice cream and seafood. They are leaving Halifax and this was our last weekend hanging out together and we were determined to check off a bunch of stuff on their bucket list.
But! There was a marathon downtown which would have made driving a nightmare. Instead, we drove out to Lunenburg to have brunch at Fleur de Sel. There were issues with that choice so we drove to Mahone Bay instead.
They were having a flea market so there was a bit of a wait at the Mug & Anchor Pub. We left our name and wandered to check out the flea market which was quickly packing up and disappearing. I did see these amazing tea cups though! What beauties!
We went back to the pub and Kelly and Eric got their giant fish and chips. It was mid-afternoon and they finally got some food!
I got the seafood crepe which was very generous when it came to the lobster so I was very happy. My salad was less than fresh so I left it behind.
It was freezing yesterday! On CBC Radio they said the high was 18 but we would have all been surprised if it gone above 10C. We all got a hot beverage and I treated myself to the M&A macaroon hot chocolate with coconut rum. That was a very good idea!
It is hard to believe this would be the last pub we would be hanging out together in.
We have done a lot of hanging out together, eating great food and having the best time. It couldn’t end there!
Kelly decided she absolutely must have Cows ice cream so we drove all the way from Mahone Bay to downtown Halifax, catching up in the car on the way. Cows is famous! In fact they have been named as the makers of the best ice cream in the world. Believe it or not, I had never had their ice cream before!
We could not believe there were other people on such a cold day down by the waterfront getting ice cream. Quite a testament to the ice cream’s secret foodie powers of persuasion.
I got the mocha almond crunch and despite its crunchiness, was the smoothies ice cream I had ever had that I had not made myself. What a treat!
Another foodie treat off their list!
From there we hung out at a casino, danced in pedways, made funny noises in the worst concert gazebo ever, drank complimentary fruity water and visited pizza corner for another bite before saying good-bye. All the while, freezing our butts off but who cares? It was an important day.
To see just how many memories we have had together, feel free to check out a video I made here.
Kelly & Eric, it is just not going to be the same without you! Your adventurous spirit and fantastic friendship will be missed. Still, we know life is going to be amazing wherever you both go because you are both so amazing. They will be lucky friends indeed.
I’ve been to the Cows store in Halifax too! Bought a couple of t-shirts but didn’t eat any ice cream. I was saving my calorie splurge for a beavertail!
P.S. CBC is a notorious liar about the weather.
I almost got a t-shirt too Debra! Oliver the moo moo lemon one, cracked me up. You said it. Don’t know why I listen to CBC when it comes to the weather. Ridiculously optimistic and deluded when it comes to our weather,
Looks like a meal to remember!! That hot chocolate looks/sounds great. Best ice cream in the world?! Woah. I hope I get to try it some day! Until then I have my Ben & Jerry’s.
I haven’t been to Cows in years; and mocha almond is my favorite flavor.
What turned you off Fleur de Sel?
Never had Ben & Jerry’s either Tori, bet it’s good! Sandy, so cool we like the same thing! Jan, they weren’t serving brunch anymore when we showed up and I am not even sure the kitchen was open. Their site had zero info on it too about when they were serving food. Very disappointing! I really wanted to go.
