National Waffle Day: Off the Grid Waffles

Happy National Waffle Day!

I first heard about Off The Grid Waffles in the article “Best Waffles in Vancouver” by Vancity Buzz and thought to myself, there is a waffle restaurant at 2665 Kingsway? I am so there!

I trekked the very long walk to get there from my place. I wanted to try one of their milkshakes that comes with a waffle wedge. It was under $10 and I ordered the cappuccino milkshake, my favourite flavour.

The restaurant is not very large but it is almost all completely white which I love. I still have no idea why people were playing Jenga, totally set me on edge while I waited for my milkshake to hear the tiles fall all over the table and then onto the floor. Not exactly relaxing.

There it was!!! Look at that! A thing of beauty with Pocky and biscuits but hey??? Where is the waffle?

I spun the mason jar a little and there it was. Perfectly golden and clinging to the edge of the glass.

Holy crap, that waffle was delicious! I am serious. I was totally impressed. It was super crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It made my knees weak. Damn! That really is one of the best waffles I have ever had.

Sadly I was less enthusiastic about the milkshake. It was too subtle. I know cappuccinos are supposed to be creamy but they are supposed to be coffee-y too! It bored me.

Screw it. Next time I am going for the savoury waffles. These foodies know what they are doing when it comes to food. And on a hot day? I am going to try one of their new waffle cups.

Happy National Waffle Day!

That milkshake looks amazing, I wouldn’t even know where to start!

Have you tried Scandalicious? It’s family run Scandinavian mainly waffle joint, so yummy! It’s at the foot of Victoria, closed to Powell.

Laura, I was just in that neighbourhood on the weekend! Haven’t explored that side of Victoria yet but want to and now I have the perfect excuse, thank you for letting me know about Scandalicious. I LOVE the name!
