Last week a wonderful box of new President’s Choice products appeared literally on my doorstep. Inside were all sorts of goodies that I have been testing, along with a gift card for me to product test their new line of pizzas.
Yes, there are many new pizzas to choose from. I ended up picking up three and all of them were vegetarian because Reg does not eat pork and all the meat ones had some sort of pork in them.
We started with the 6-Mushroom Medley Ultra-Thin Crust Tart. It truly is a super thin pizza with beautiful “hand woven edges.” The package actually refers to this product as an “authentic Fresh tart” so perhaps it is not technically a pizza. It is so thin and not super large that for the two of us, I needed to make salads and smoothies to make a filling meal. For a large family looking for an all-pizza dinner, you will have to buy a few of these to fill everyone up.
The cream sauce is stunning, so tasty and with the mushrooms? Oh my! Love it. They use emmental cheese which was new to me but my mom said my grandmother used to use it all the time. The mushroom flavour was in every bite. This was definitely our favourite. A super tasty pizza for under $5, I give this product four and a half out of five wooden spoons.
They also sent me their pizza cutter which I love much more than the one I already had because there is a lot of weight to it, helping me slice the pizza with less effort. Impressive! This tool gets five out of five wooden spoons.
The next pizza we tried was the Thin & Crispy Mozzarella Pizza. It was interesting to notice that the pizzas had different cooking times and something different temperatures. The mushroom pizza came out perfectly but this one was kind of cold which was very off-putting. From its name you do not know there is pesto sauce in there mixed in with the other flavours but it does show up in the description.
Despite the zing of pesto, we found this the most boring of the three pizzas we tried. The thin crust was nice but again, a fairly small pizza that we found kind of forgettable. Even for under $5 I probably will not be buying this one again. I give this product three out of five wooden spoons.
Last but far from least was the Cheese Rip & Dip Pizza. This pizza was much bigger in size and definitely not a thin-crust pizza. At $5.99 it was a little more expensive than the other pizzas but in comparison to delivery, super inexpensive. It came with a marinara sauce that you heated up in the microwave in a plastic container which freaks me out. I actually had to heat it up a little more to make sure it was warm but prefer not to have to do that at all. I think plastic and microwaves should never go together.
This pizza reminded me so much of a giant pizza pretzel. A nice amount of sauce on very doughy bread with tangy cheese, it was fun to tear into and dip. Obviously not for the thin-crust pizza fans but if you like doughy pizza, you will probably enjoy this one. The marinara sauce was surprisingly delicious as well. I give this product four out of five wooden spoons.
All last weekend President’s Choice fed us for dinner and it was a very interesting foodie experiment. Overall I was impressed with the quality, I never buy frozen pizzas but will definitely pick up some 6-Mushroom Medley Ultra-Thin Crust Tarts and keep them in the deep freeze for those night I do not want to cook but do not mind making the sides for. We loved that pizza the most!
The mushroom tart sounds delicious! I’ll be picking one of those up for sure 🙂
Oh I think I would love the mushroom one as well, sounds super yummy. That’s one of the reasons we rarely do frozen pizza, with two teenage boys in the house I would have to spend a lot of dough to fill them with these. I’m sure you’ll agree nothing beats homemade, but it’s nice to have the convenience once in awhile too. Love the pizza cutter, man they think of everything 🙂
Mmm… That tart really was something else, best frozen pizza I have ever had. 🙂
Ava, I can totally understand that dilemma. The rip and dip pizza was much larger but when you have teenage boys, they could probably eat one each!
No, nothing does beat homemade but it was nice to get a break in the kitchen and still have a tasty dinner.
I know, I was so impressed and happy about that pizza cutter, so thoughtful! They also included a garlic dipping sauce but I didn’t realize it was for the pizza. I am making a homemade pizza for dinner tonight and will try it out with that so stay tuned for more!
Emmental cheese is new for me too and super common in Finland. You can buy it here by the block, slice or shredded!
I think the mushroom pizza looks super yum! I hope they still have it on the shelves when we return for a visit!
