Product Review: Lay’s Do Us A Flavour Cinnamon Buns Chips

Product Review: Lay's Do Us A Flavour Cinnamon Buns Chips

The final Lay’s chips contender for me to review for their Do Us a Flavour Contest is Gloria Melanson’s underdog dessert chips: Cinnamon Bun.

I decided to try them last since going from cinnamon to fishy tzatziki might not be a good idea. I stayed traditional and left them for last.

Was I ever shocked! OK, at first I thought, this is weird. A chip dessert… It is not savoury but it also was not overly sweet. They were very thin, crispy, slightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon.

I started to ask myself, what is not to like? I mean, first a crunch and then buttery melting in my mouth with sweetness that reminded me so much of the flavours of the topping from an apple crisp. The cinnamon was subtle and not overpowering.

Gloria, I think Lay’s did your flavour idea proud. All the flavours of a cinnamon bun were there without it being overwhelmingly too sticky and sweet. Rarely do I prefer a chip that is more subtle than kick-in-the-head flavourful but this time I was swayed to the other side. The more I ate them, the more I enjoyed them.

These are not for everyone and I am sure there are going to be a ton of people who completely disagree with me. This is my favourite of the four flavours and for me, the total winner. I liked them so much I better not buy them again because I will once again eat the entire bag. Dangerous and delicious. I can’t help it. I always love the underdog.

I give this product five out of five wooden spoons.

I tired these chips. And all I can say is “pooey –pooey-bleah!
These chips are horrible and leave an aftertaste that is well… indescribable.

What a shame! Must have been a quality control issue because mine were fine. That sucks though!

Well, Suzie Ridler, I would have to say that these chips were probably normal, just not my cup of tea.
Now, let’s be honest everyone: if you were to boil a pot of potatoes for supper would you REALLY sprinkle cinnamon, sugar and butter on top of the potatoes and serve them for company? I don’t think you would and your company would probably think that you were a weird cook. (or, just weird). Ok! So that being said, why one earth would anyone find cinnamon, sugar and butter good on potato chips good. Ok, butter I can see, but cinnamon and sugar? Come on now! And I know you know that I am right…. these chips would soon give someone a tummy ache if they ate too many. Any tummy aches out there yet?

Not sure how long they’re going to be around Debra and hopefully you get a good batch, some people had ones with a bad aftertaste so be careful!

Hey, Suzie, yesterday we did our big “taste testing” at the office of all the flavours and guess what? One other person and I liked the cinnamon bun ones the best! Everyone else hated them though. But we all agreed the other ones were too much like flavours that already existed. Only the cinnamon ones were UNIQUE!

Oh that’s awesome Debra! You and I are on the same page and yes, they are unique and the others really weren’t. So glad you got to try them all!

I agree Deryck, they are confusing. When I realized it reminded me of apple crisp, I just went for it and couldn’t stop eating them.

Janet, that is terrible!!! Slimy? Ugh! I guess quality control screwed up because mine weren’t like that but I am sorry yours were, that bites.

I have to agree with you. At first taste they were a wonder, but as you ate a few more the flavours came out. These are my favorite of the bunch. All though we have not tried the Jalapeno flavor as we aren’t too fond of spicy.
