I know, Ranch Bugles right?! What could be more ingenious? OK, I thought their Nacho Bugles were pretty damn fantastic but I had to check out their new ranch flavoured ones.
The Foodie Sighting
I was at Dollarama one day and saw this wild product and could not believe my eyes. Giant bags of limited edition ranch flavoured Bugles all in a row. I took this photo, shared it on social media and said, hey, want me to review these?
I got a lot of heck yes in response so when I went the second time I planned on picking them up. But they were ALL GONE! This shelf was now completely empty and I freaked. Then, I saw amidst the Doritos, a lone bag left behind, hidden by someone else but I grabbed it and took it home. Next time I will just grab the damn foodie treasure.
The Photoshoot
Life with cats continues to make photoshoots a little challenging. Shibumi in particular is the most curious of the cats so this was the best “closed bag” shot I could get.
She eventually got bored and also did not like the sound of the bag opening (make mental note of that) so I could let these fun cone-shaped ranch-coated treats fill up the bowl.
The Taste Test
I was warned by a foodie friend that she was really disappointed by these but I have to say they were exactly what I was expecting. As my sister Jamie said if you want that good old fashioned Bugle taste with ranch flavour, that is exactly what these give you.
I totally agree. The batch we got had a ton of flavour too which is super important to me. Do not hold back on the seasonings please! Which they did not so big foodie thumbs up from me.
Foodie Nostalgia
I know a lot of people go all Freddy Krueger with Bugles so I put one on my finger and it felt completely alien. In fact, I remembered Bugles from growing up but realized they were not something we regularly had at home. Jamie reminded me that they were a treat our paternal grandparents used to give us and that explained a lot. No playing with food would ever be allowed! So I can make up for lost silly foodie time as an adult now.
These are an inexpensive treat that completely delivered on all levels and everyone I shared them with loved them. I give this foodie product a rare five out of five wooden spoons.
Personal Update
On a totally different note I just wanted to give a little update on me and my foodie life. I have finally gotten over the vertigo but I have a ton of medical issues still to deal with. The worst is the insomnia and being on so much medication to help me get through the night I spend almost all my time in bed. When I am not in bed I am seeing doctors and family and even sometimes friends which is a whole different kind of medicine.
As a result though, my exhaustion continues and continues. My physical weakness is just downright embarrassing now. Hence, product reviews of special edition Bugles in mid-afternoon and after this? I will be sleeping until dinner time. My plans to get to Ribfest, Poutine Fest… never manifested. I am in Mecca of the foodie world and can not do anything.
The BIG news is I have FOUR more moves ahead of me over the next few months. My sister is renovating her house, all my stuff is going into storage (except my Instant Pot of course) and I will be house hopping and living out of my luggage until close to winter. My plans to study French food and chocolate making will have to be shelved until next year. I guess the good news is there is no way to predict what the hell is going to show up on my blog so it will be a surprise for both you AND me. Positive thoughts are always welcome. It is going to be one hell of a ride.
Bugles (just the regular kind) is a nostalgic junk food for me too. We only got them once in a while because they were expensive (to us, anyway — everything is relative). I still buy some occasionally, just every once in a blue moon, for a hit of nostalgia.
Best wishes to you and your Instant Pot as you house-hop over the next few months!
Yes, so nostalgic, aren’t they Debra?! It was such a treat for us too, we never had them at home. I hadn’t had them in years but their nacho ones got me and were so good.
Thanks! Sadly, I have sprained my ankle and foot which is going to make moving all the move challenging but I will be taking my Instant Pot wherever I go.
That story to come… OMG, my life!
not sure whether I will steal Shibumi or the bugles first …..
BTw you still have Reg as your proofreader …. I volunteer if it would help 🙂
Shibumi is a feisty one! She’s like a dragon, such a special cat. Thank you so much for the offer to help! So far so good but I will let you know if I need help.
