Right off the plane still rolling my luggage along the sidewalks of Toronto my sister Shannon and my Mom took me out for some Thai food at Real Thailand Restaurant at Spadina and Bloor. I parked my bag in the empty seat and ordered one of my favourite meals, Pad Thai. Yummy! It was lovely, not as perfect as The Queen Mom’s pad thai (my fav) but pretty darn close.
It even came with a soup or salad, I chose the hot and sour and it was perfect. Very sharp and with just enough heat to comfort me and welcome me back home to the city I grew up in. One of the things I miss most since I left Toronto, other than my fantastic family of course, is the international food. I grew up in a place where you travel the world through food on a daily basis. You can go anywhere at any time for a great price. My mom treated me to this meal so I can not confirm the exact total but have a feeling it was less than $10. I swear, only in Toronto can you eat this great for that price.
The restaurant itself was nice but my only complaint is just how far the washrooms are, you have to go to the back of the restaurant and go up the stairs and around the corner to get to them. For seniors like my mom and people with disabilities, this is a major issue. Other than that, I really have no complaints. I give the restaurant 4 out of 5 wooden spoons.
I love Thai food! Those photos make me hungry!
Mike and I were so sad to leave behind our favorite Thai restaurant in Colorado. However, we have been really excited to find a super one here in our new home town! It might even be better! The “brown” rice they use is called red cargo rice, and it is amazing! They actually sold us a five pound bag of the rice dry, so we can have it at home too! YUM! (I also found out online that red cargo rice is really good for diabetics.)
I have to say – those pictures totally rock! Delish!
