My husband and I have been going to Tom’s Family Restaurant with our friends for dinner for a while now. It is huge so even on a Saturday night you never end up waiting around for a table or booth for more than 15 minutes. Lower Sackville does not offer much competition, ranging from a Taco Bell to the worst Swiss Chalet I have ever been to. Tom’s is a restauranteur’s safe haven from the fast food industry.
This week we are official on holidays and it has been dark and dreary! We decided to make it a “get stuff done” kind of holiday so we had dropped off our car at Corbin’s Automotive (seriously, if you are in the HRM, this is a great place to to take your car to, we love Corbin’s) to get our winter tires removed. When the waitress took our order I told her we were in no rush, we had time to kill. She smiled and said, “No problem.” I am rather cautious when I order decaf coffee at a restaurant but at Tom’s they take care of you. My coffee was definitely decaf and delicious. Warm comfort on such an unfortunately day.
This was the first time I indulged in Tom’s breakfast menu. It was noon and I wanted a treat so I ordered the pancake platter which was $6.99. These were beautiful and luscious pancakes! I am picky about how pancakes are made but these buttermilk beauties soaked up the syrup, were light and fluffy and filled me up! I could only eat two and the sausage was also delicious.
Tom’s is a regular hangout for a lot of people. The menu has fair prices and the dinner portions are very generous. I can personally vouch for their hamburgers, clam platter and corn beef sandwich, although if you are like me you will need to order extra mustard. Once again Tom’s was our safe haven for food and comfort outside of the home. The service is always friendly, you will never feel rushed to leave and the food is always hearty. Not gourmet but hey, it is a family restaurant. It definitely succeeds in making you feel at home while getting a good hot meal on a cold and grey day in Nova Scotia. As I said before, we come here a lot.
Glad to know you have a restaurant safe haven! Everyone needs a place like that.
I love reading your restaurant reviews, Suzie. Every time I do you give excellent detail about why it’s a good place to go. These are the details I need to know if I plan to open my own restaurant some day.
I love restaurants like that!
The pancakes sound heavenly. It’s nice to have a spot where you know you will be taken care of. Yay for Tom’s!
