Shannon and Jamie introduced me to Firkin on Danforth during my visit. I had to go because I heard so much about the chicken and waffles!
I actually ordered Butcher On The Rye.
Jamie ordered the chicken and waffles but doubled the brussel sprouts and held back on the waffle! She let me have a taste of the chicken. OMG, so crispy and delicious!
It was Octoberfest so Shannon got schnitzel on a pretzel burger.
We all enjoyed our meal and filled up because we had to go shofting!!! A term Jamie made up during the taping of our Sister Summit.
I helped Shannon pick out this awesome heavy bottom braising pan.
We closed Value Village with fabulous full tummies and lots of bags of shofting goodies.
I thought that was that but ended up having a Hang Out With Suzie event that I moved to Firkin on Danforth because the subway was closed on the weekend! Can you imagine? Thankfully many people could still come including friends all the way from senior kindergarten to ones I made during my last few visits to Toronto! You can see Paul’s photography here and Michelle’s chain mail here.
It was time for me to finally have my own chicken and waffles and because it was the brunch menu, I could do so with eggs benedict! Yes, it got a tad mushy but was still tasty, totally decadent and OMG those hush puppies were to die for!
Just so you know I was not the only one who indulged too!
I loved that I could make reservations at Firkin on Danforth and the place is large enough to accommodate a big group. The food is satisfying, the service is great and during the day there is tons of natural light.
What an amazing time we all had together! Reconnecting over tales from junior high to catching up with today’s lives… I am so grateful that people could come and hang out with me.
The only issue for dining at Firkin on Danforth is noise. I met my dad there for a Sunday brunch and as we ate Axl Rose screamed Welcome To The Jungle, followed by AC/DC. Normally, I would love that but my dad found it a bit too much. We still had a phenomenal visit together, though.
Firkin on Danforth is a large pub in a great location. They are even going to be hosting a Halloween party! Talk about my kind of place.
It was my foodie headquarters while I was away, so much so I was worried they were going to start charging me rent for spending so much time there. It was the perfect location to meet with friends and family during my visit! If you want to catch up with friends or host a party, I highly recommend Firkin on Danforth.
Nice to see a photo of you and your Dad! So many of today’s popular restaurants are noisy as hell — open concept space amplifies the sound of all the music, TVs and general crowd noise. I read that to “the younger generation,” noise means hip ‘n happenin’ whereas quiet means stodgy ‘n dull so that’s why restaurants promote such high-noise atmospheres. Of course, as an ancient curmudgeon, I prefer quiet restaurants where you can actually engage in conversation.
Thanks Debra! It was awesome to see him. I’m so lucky I got to see so many people on my trip.
Yes, so loud! And heavy in this place. My dad was not impressed with the sound level at all. I basically go deaf when there is loud music but I managed at this place. Some places I have had to leave because it’s just so flipping loud.
Great review/blog Suzie. Thankfully the noise level was just right for a reunion for the ages.
Thanks Reuben! Yes, it wasn’t too loud when we got together, was it? Just for when my dad was there on a Sunday afternoon, LOL. Glad we could reconnect without it being too psych-loud!
Great fun and great photos, Suzie. Love that last skull guy too. So fun.
Thanks THW! It was a blast and the pub had all sorts of Halloween gear out too, it was awesome.
