Waffled Pillsbury Cinnamon Buns

Thanks to a reader who fell in love with Pinterest like me, I discovered the foodie idea of waffling cinnamon buns. The pin originally came from Simply Designing and I was desperate for an economical and easy sweet brunch treat.

I was out of everything and buying all the components to make cinnamon buns for the weekend only to waffle them would both be heavy and expensive.

BTW, I could not wait for my new cutting board to arrive. I made my own mini version of it!

Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls were on sale. I could get everything I needed, including the icing, for only $2 and it would not add a ton of weight to my backpack for my walk home.

The hard part? Opening the damn tube! I have bought their products before and they usually pop right open but not this one. I hit it all over my kitchen… Nothing. Luckily Reg was home at the time!

It was perfect! The package came with eight rolls so Reg and I could have four each. The icing was crazy-hard so I nuked it for around 15 seconds to make it pourable.

I sprayed my waffle iron with canola oil after heating it up and put one bun per spot. I closed the hatch and waited two minutes.

The turned out beautiful golden brown and very crunchy! I think next time I will only waffle them for a minute, I like mine to be a bit less hard.

I drizzled with syrup and the icing and wow, what a treat for brunch! So easy and affordable. Even though our budget was super tight and my pantry was bare, this made me feel like a million bucks.

Yes, I will definitely try this technique with my favourite cinnamon buns recipe and I know they will be even better (and probably a lot bigger). Still, this was a fun and simple foodie experiment that I can wholeheartedly recommend for those who want a little extra something for breakfast with minimal cost and effort.

A totally cool and successful idea. Pinterest rocks!

I could go for a few of those right now to go with my coffee, what a cute, sweet and simple treat. I’ll be trying this for sure.
