A Foodie Day in Downtown Halifax

October 23, 2011 by Suzie the Foodie 3 Comments

The Java Factory, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Oh what a shame The JavaFactory Cafe & Bar does not have a web site! I would love to share it because this was a great cafe just outside of the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market.

The staff were incredibly friendly. Reg and I talked to them about BC and I had the best decaf mocha with a shot of hazelnut in my entire life. Tasted like a truffle! I was super happy, great way to start the day.

Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market

We got to the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market a little late in the day which you can tell by the golden light touching these fantastic pumpkins.

There were autumnal touches everywhere which I absolutely loved. Next time we will go there earlier so we can spend more time there.

I finally got to see one of the Dill family’s monstrous award-winning pumpkins! This one was 716 lbs! Jamie found some stunning art while we were shopping before people packed up. We also got to say hello to Shelagh from Alice in Paris Loves Art and Tea which was so fabulous!

In the historic properties area I was put in the stocks where I could barely eat my Cow’s ice cream! Their Moo Crunch ice cream (peanut butter cups in chocolate) was pretty darn phenomenal.

How amazing that it is late October and we are eating ice cream in downtown Halifax! Jamie and Justin brought the most fabulous weather for their visit. I am so grateful even though they locked me up and interfered with my ice cream treat, LOL. BTW, I kind of insisted on this photo!

Maxwell's Plum, Halifax, Nova Scotia

We had to take Justin to Maxwell’s Plum of course! The last time Jamie visited she asked us where our hangout was downtown and with no doubt about it, it is the Plum.

Because of the unusually phenomenal weather, it was quite busy but we did find a table at the very back of the basement.

Jamie and Reg got the chicken fingers and absolutely loved the sauce that came with it.

Reg is so silly. He’s looking through my ear trying to see if he can see anything on the other side. What a goof!

Justin and I got the quesadillas which is always a good choice at the Plum.

I have to say, I wonder if this place is haunted? I would love to learn more about the story and history of this spot. If it is haunted, it is by very happy ghosts who loved hanging out here. The vibe is awesome.

As great as it is to eat out, we are going to rest and relax at home and eat my food before they hop back on a plane and go home tomorrow. As always, family visits go by way too fast. I can not remember the last time I laughed so much and so hard.
