Allan’s Saybon Halloween Candy Giveaway!

October 27, 2011 by Suzie the Foodie 31 Comments

Allan Saybon Candies

My newsletter readers knew all about this giveaway ahead of time! Want to be in the foodie loop? Sign up, it’s free!

When I get to review a product like candy, I feel like one lucky foodie. To give candy away for a Halloween giveaway? The happiest foodie around! The Allan Candy Company is giving away e-coupons for one of their 176 g packages of Saybon candies. Five lucky Canadians will win an e-coupon. You can find their candy across Canada at major retailers.

Allan Saybon Candies

Lucky me I got to do some taste testing of two kinds of candies from their new Saybon line. All their candy is peanut free and kosher.

Allan Saybon Candies

First I got to try their new toffees that are made with rich and creamy caramelized sugarmilks:

“Sugarmilks are caramelized with the perfect blend of milk, sugar, heat and time to create a rich and creamy tasting candy.”

They come in mint, rum, English, Brazil nut and liquorice and man, are they ever good! I absolutely love toffee, it is one of my favourite treats in the world so I was more than happy to sample these treats. They start off quite hard but as they warm up in your mouth, they begin to soften and dissolve.

Despite not being a fan of mint or liquorice, I enjoyed all of them. English and Brazil nut were by far my favourite though. I give these candies four and a half out of five wooden spoons.

Now these fruit taffy candies may look like regular taffy but I assure you, they are very unique! They were much more subtle than the taffy I have had in the past and I was impressed to find out that each piece is folded and slab cut by hand, one batch at a time. It is reminiscent of salt water taffy but not as strong in flavour.

Allan Saybon Candies
How cool they make blueberry taffy?! These were my favourite of the bunch.

“We hope Canadians share and enjoy these candies while creating their own stories and memories with family and friends.”

That is exactly what I did! I kept the toffees at home (yes, I was greedy and did not want to share) but took these fruit taffy to a family get together. It was interesting that the young adults agreed with me, that they thought the flavours were very subtle. One of them said, “They’re like weak Starbursts.” I have to agree. Not bad, just different. Yet some of the parents and kids there totally loved them and thought they were perfect. One of the kids could not stop eating them!

Personally, I want more flavour. Still, I was impressed. I love fruit flavours and taffy is always so much fun to eat. I give these candies four out of five wooden spoons.

HALLOWEEN GIVEAWAY

The rules are simple:

1. Tell me about your favourite candy. I know, hard to choose but try!
2. Must be a resident of Canada.
3. If you can, follow my blog. The more followers I have, the more giveaways I can do.
4. If you do not have an email on your profile page you MUST include your email address in the comments. If you do not, you will automatically be disqualified.

So exciting to be doing a Halloween giveaway! The five winners will be announced on Monday October 31st. Good luck everyone!

You know I love that retro candy and anything chocolate whoo hoo! Recently found the Wonka Bottle Caps and they still have that same smell (root beer) I remember as a kid.

I’ve also recently tried these Saybon candies and I absolutely adored the toffess and eclairs. They are all super yummy, what a lovely giveaway…Thanks!

it’a hard choice between two of my favorites :

    – swedish berries (I have to buy small bags so I don’t feel too guilty when I finish it in one sitting… haha!)
    – jelly beans : especially the jelly belly kind! I love to make my own mix when I get the chance.

I hope this isn’t repeated – it failed the first time! 🙂 Even though I’m a dietitian, candy is my treat of choice! (over chips or fried food or take out!) My favorite this time of year is Kerr’s molasses kisses! But swedish berries and dark chocolate almonds are delicious too! Thanks for the give away!

Thanks for reminding me about the giveaway Suzie. I was reading about it the other day. Tonight is our Murder Mystery Party so I’ve been busy planning and almost forgot to enter.

I don’t eat much candy and don’t have a favourite but when I worked at the Legion, there was a customer that I called “The Candy Pusher”. He wasn’t much of a tipper but every time he walked passed the bar, he would drop one or two candies on the counter for me. They were the very candies you speak of. I don’t like liquorice either but these ones were yummy.

I think if I was to win, I’d have to go back on a night when he’s playing cards and return the favour.

    Happy Halloween!!
