The blog birthday giveaways continue with this copy of Digital Food Photography! This seems to be THE book on food photography so of course, being a food photographer, I just had to read it and bought myself a copy.
I am not one to hold onto books when I am done reading them (cookbooks excluded of course) and I really loved this book’s perspective on, well, perspective. It really “shows” you how to look at your subjects differently and deals with food photography and photography theory at the same time.
I particularly love the part where Lou writes about the evolution away from giant contrived food layout towards focusing more on the food and setups being less cluttered. If you look at my food photography, you know that is how I like to photography my food. It is all about the food.
This book taught me so much about myself as a photographer. I vehemently disagree with using soap suds to make my bacon glisten but if you want to know about that element of food photography you will find the section dedicated to food styling fascinating.
I have one copy to give away. It is open to everyone, everywhere. Leave a comment with contact info (unless your profile already includes your email address) to enter. To qualify, tell me what you love about food photography, why you want to learn more… Winner will be announced Monday! Good luck everybody!
Jamie came in safely last night! Somehow a crappy rainy and windy day that was forecasted turned to sunny skies, probably because is such a positive force of nature. We were up way too late last night so I am nursing a catching-up hangover but it is so worth it. I can’t believe my sister is here!!!!

Sounds like a GREAT book! I am always rushing through my food styling just because I do not know too much about it. This would be wonderful! Thanks girl!

Happy Blog Birthday Suzie! Happy visit with Jamie!
It does indeed sound like a great book. I’d love to learn how to make my hippy food look less hippy and more vital.
Thanks 🙂

I love food photography because I eat with my eyes and I have a new DSLR, but also a busy toddler, so I need all the help I can get with my pics!

Wow! What a cool looking book! I just checked out the book on Amazon.com and saw some of the photos and the index. Who knew this book even includes info on doing your pics in Photoshop in Chapter 8, The Digital Spice: Retouching. Sure would be scrumptious to have a book like this!

What isn’t there to love about food photography?! I need some improvement in my photography skills (and how pretty my food presentation is, LOL) and this book would be helpful. Plus, it’s basically a book all about food porn, what more could you ask for? Hah!

Lately, when I go out to eat with friends I might take pics of the dishes we have. More recently, at my brother’s wedding banquet, I took pics of pretty much every dish that came out. Call it food pr0n. 😀

There’s a book that I would certainly devour. It looks absolutely awesome! I’m pretty confident that I could pick up a trick or two (or make that a hundred!) to improve on my photography skills. I especially need to learn about lighting and set-up and also how to let my passion for what I am about to sink my teeth into transpire to the shots that I take.

Ahhh, this book looks fantastic!
I’ve only recently gotten into food photography–primarily for French Fridays with Dories–and while I love showing off my attempts with fab photos, I’m struggling to come up with new ideas. This book looks like it could be a big help!

I started my own food blog in February and food photography is a newly-found passion for me. I love playing with lighting and styling to produce photos that are good enough to eat! Since readers can’t taste my food online, photos really are the best way to share my kitchen creations.

The thing that your blog impresses me the most, aside from your food are your beautiful photographs! If I do win, I hope I don’t wreck the book by drooling on it 🙂

Thank you for all the support and comments, loving it! I learned a lot about photo composition and trouble shooting from this book Sarah. There were some photo editing that helped, as well as issues about white balance to help make sure I get the colours in my photos right. I hope that helps!
