According to the Lay’s Canada Facebook Page:
“Canada has voted: the winning Lay’s flavour is Maple Moose! Congratulations to Tyler LeFrense!”
I want to say congratulations to Tyler too! First, because the bag of chips I got were pretty good:
Second? People are saying the meanest comments ever on the page. I hate mean people and stop stealing his thunder!
It is ironic too because I was just going to write a post about the Grilled Cheese & Ketchup chips. My Auntie Laima found them for me at Sobey’s when she was visiting. They are very strong and as Reg said, taste like cheese and ketchup. We ate the whole bag and I know this one was despised too.
I have learned that when it comes to chips, if it has a lot of flavour I am probably going to love them when other people will hate them. As a result, I recuse myself of any future chip competition. I am a chips addict and will eat anything and probably love it as long as they are not plain.
One thing about the comments on the Facebook page that do make me wonder is the Maple Moose were the last chips left on the shelves at the end of the contest all over my area. One thing I do not like about these sorts of contests is the potential for it to just be a popularity contest for a person instead of being judged on quality. That said, who knows? Maybe there were a lot of people who secretly liked them?
I do also wonder about quality control. Some people on my Facebook page wrote about a terrible aftertaste which we did not experience. Then someone commented about them being too plain, ours weren’t. I wonder how strict the cross-Canada quality control was?
Regardless, I am happy for Tyler and this was a fun and fascinating foodie experience to witness. I just wish I got to try all the other flavours but as I said, this is one contest I probably shouldn’t judge. Oh man, now I want chips!!!
