After being off the foodie shelves for 14 years, Sonic Sour Cream Doritos are back and in their original retro packaging!
The Back Story
Yes, I am a little behind on reviewing them because I missed the package delivery and ended up needing a drive all the way out to the airport to pick them up. My bad!
The Product
This is one of the most requested throwback flavours of Doritos and has returned to stores across Canada for a limited time wherever Doritos are sold.

The Taste Test
You absolutely get that sour cream and onion taste right away. There is also a cheesy-ness to it that I like. A friend of mine said they reminded him of Cool Ranch and I bet that is what they were transformed into.
Foodie Conclusion
Each chip has a ton of flavour and I love the idea of going back in time and getting a product from the past. Those who were original fans of Sonic Sour Cream Doritos will be thrilled with their return. For people new to them, like myself, it is wonderful to get a chance to try something I had missed before. Now I am in-the-foodie-know big time and eating them for breakfast as I type this.
We have already gone through one bag in no time at all. Reg loved them as much as I did so it was a bit of a race to the bottom of the first bag. Sour cream and onion corn tortilla chips. What could be wrong?
I give this foodie product four out of five wooden spoons.
I’m not fussy about sour cream taste. I’m such an anglo, I don’t even eat sour cream with perogies.
I can see if sour cream is not your thing then these probably won’t appeal, although there is strong onion and cheese flavour too. I think it’s in my Latvian DNA to like it, LOL.

They’re back!! Or they are in British Columbia Canada 😊 they Remind me of the cool ranch as well. I like them.
It tastes similar to the Cool Ranch Doritos in my opinion.
To me, these are just like Cool Ranch Doritos when they first came out in the late 80s, early 90s. They have way more of the spices on some of the chips – not all, but it’s just like Cool Ranch used to be and I absolutely loved them. Unfortunately, I found that they totally dulled down the Cool Ranch chips with hardly any flavour – totally boring! I gave up eating Cool Ranch, so disappointed with the lack of flavour they were now producing. Needless to say I am over the moon about these Sonic Sour Cream that taste so much like the Cool Ranch I loved, and remembered! I would love if they would keep these in the shelf year-round!
I tried these several months back at the beginning of the year and was hooked!, now I can’t find them anywhere?, these have so much more flavor than the cool ranch as some people like to compare, the cool ranch just don’t have enough flavor on them, that’s why I stopped buying them, but the sour creme and onion are bursting with flavor, I just love them and many of my of my friends that I got hooked onto them have also been asking about them too! will you be bringing them back?
