You will find El Caracol Cafe at 5183 Victoria Drive at 36th Avenue. In some ways it is hard to miss. So colourful and fun on the outside. For the longest time I wanted to go inside and check it out.
My friend Kris and I decided to open up our own little eBay store and had done some shopping and were famished. Perfect time for us to wander into the tiny little Mexican cafe and get some Mexican-Honduran and Salvadorian food. It was so colourful and fun inside, just what I was hoping for.
Information about the food was everywhere! On the walls, above the bar and, of course, in the menu.
I had to try their chicken tamales. They are only $3 which astounded me. I had never seen them less than $8 anywhere else. As a result, I usually skip getting one. Not this time!
I have made my own tamales before but these were of course much easier, faster and more authentic. Not to mention, delicious.
We got the $9.99 enchilada and it did not disappoint. Served with refried beans, perfectly cooked and delicious rice and pickled veggies… the enchilada itself was generous in size and flavour. It was so good I had to bring home one for Reg so he would say yes to coming to El Caracol Cafe with me.
Kris ordered a Horchata and let me have some. It was delicious!!! “It’s a milky mixture of cocoa, seeds, and spices” and absolutely wonderful. I will never go to El Caracol Cafe without ordering one to go with whatever I try next.
The prices were excellent, the people were friendly, everything tasted amazing… I give this dining out experience five out of five wooden spoons.

LOL, me too! That was exactly what I was thinking and this time I’ll get my own Horchata. In fact, I might have to learn how to make it myself it was so damn good.
