I have been wanting to go to Fan’s Chinese Restaurant at 451 Windmill Road in Dartmouth for years! My friend Kelly speaks so fondly of the restaurant and we tried to go a long time ago but it just never panned out.
We had a crazy-beautiful bright and warm weekend here and Reg hosted the Star Wars gaming day at our house so it was the perfect opportunity to finally walk through Fan’s doors.
I loved being greeted by this stunning fish tank. It was cool to hang out with the fish as Emily and I flipped through the takeout menu to figure out what we wanted to order.
We definitely want to have the dine-in experience one day but we were bringing food to our friend Alissa’s place so we could hang out with her and her new little family.
After ordering we waited with this stunning carved Buddha for about 10 minutes. We almost ordered one of their combos for three people but in the end ordered three separate main dishes with a large order of rice instead.
We opted for Shrimp With Mixed Vegetables, Lemon Sauce Chicken and Black Bean Beef.
There was more than enough food for the three of us to have seconds and have food leftover.
Everything was delicious! The beef had a one chili pepper rating (spicy but not crazy-hot) and it was right at my personal tolerance. I just removed the actual chilies from the beef and was totally fine. My favourite was the chicken with lemon sauce. So flavourful and the texture was wonderful! The shrimp with vegetables was lovely, I adore Chinese vegetables and have to learn how to make them that way. So tasty!
Truly, I loved everything and want to go back for more. A lot more! It was the perfect lunch as we hung out and ate and caught up with life. Emily even drove me to Walmart and Bulk Barn on the way home so more foodie stories to come!
I give this dining experience five out of five wooden spoons. It was perfect, no complaints from me and that is quite the feat! What a treat to have Chinese food with friends on a stunning weekend.
Did you rub the Buddha’s belly for good luck? We have a similar statue (but made of white marble) in our favourite Thai restaurant here and I always rub his belly, LOL!
Oh man, I knew I was forgetting something! I will do it next time for sure. My friend Kelly insists I go back for the dumplings. Dumplings and rubbing a Buddha belly have got to be extra good luck! Thanks Debra. 🙂
