Well it has been quite a long time since I had a mega foodie fail so it was time. Check them all out here. From recipes to events to my own personal screw ups… I reveal all.
This time it was NOT my fault! I know, shocking right?! I saw this post on Proper Tasty’s Facebook Page for microwave mug pizza and it looked so good! Pizza is one of those things that would be nice to make easily and quickly at home but let’s be honest, usually it is time consuming and a lot of work which is why it is still a classic food to get on Friday nights delivered to our door.
Sadly it was absolutely too good to be true so let’s celebrate the disaster together, shall we?!
The Ingredients
You need: 3 T flour, 3/8 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt (makes the self-raising flour), 1 egg, 1 tbsp tomato paste, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tbsp olive oil, grated cheese and sliced pepperoni. I sprayed the mug with Pam thank goodness!
I did not want to use ordinary tomato paste for the sauce because, for me, the sauce is the most important ingredient to a pizza. I made my Super Fast, Easy & Tasty Pizza Sauce Recipe for this special foodie occasion. Nothing is more sacred than pizza on the weekend!
Directions
Mix the first part of the dry ingredients with the egg.
Add olive oil and additional baking powder.
Add the “tomato paste.”
Add some cheese and pepperoni. Mix together. Top with more cheese and pepperoni.
Microwave for 90-100 seconds.
I did top mine with a plate because, um, foreseeable disaster ahead! The plate got blown off the top.

Total melted oozing cheese disaster but hey, that is OK with me. I cleaned the microwave and got ready to enjoy my microwave mug pizza with a giant salad and smoothie.
Melted cheese is of course tasty at first but as I got deeper…
Dry bready awfulness!!!! Not so tasty! Terrible actually. What a waste of my sauce!!! Ugh.
Proper Tasty’s Microwave Mug Pizza is a classic fail! It looked fast, easy and delicious to make and in the end it was a waste of food and time. I give this recipe zero of out of five wooden spoons because it was such a huge and complete let down.
Not to worry! I did not let that stunning pizza sauce go to waste. I later rectified this disaster and came up with the best homemade pizza I have ever had. Out of a disaster came a breakthrough! That foodie story, to come…

First of all, I love your photo of the egg and dry ingredients. It looks very tao.
Second of all, sorry to hear it was a foodie disaster!
Thirdly, I had a foodie disaster this week too! I combined two different recipes to make beef barley vegetable soup. What could go wrong with SOUP, right? I sort of knew, even as I was merrily throwing ingredients and herbs into the pot, that things did not bode well. Gawd, it was absolutely inedible! The entire pot went down the toilet. The sewer rats ate well that night, my friend.

Oh thank you! So glad you liked the photos. At least those turned out, LOL. I have been celebrating my disasters for over a decade now, it is part of being a human in the kitchen, LOL. Oh no!!!! What on earth did you combine that was so terrible?! Ugh, wasted food is the worst! I am so sorry Debra!

I put waaaaaay too much tomato paste in it (what was I thinking?) and there was a battle of “Infinity War” proportions between basil, thyme and rosemary (again, what was I thinking?)
Suzie the Foodie says
Oh no!!! Too much tomato paste, ack! And a plethora of dried herbs would do it too. What a shame Debra!
