Gung Hei Fat Choy!

Asian Food Challenge

I love this display in my grocery store. Makes me miss Vancouver where we lived in an area I called Little Chinatown, where I could pick up anything and everything for cheap every day!

…Which means “Happy New Year” in Chinese. We are not quite there yet but it is not far away! This year The Chinese New Year is not until Valentine’s Day but I wanted to celebrate all month. With FOOD! Yup, I want to make Asian-inspired food this month and I invite you to join me. Thankfully my Superstore is celebrating with me and has many Asian food items on sale:
Asian Food Challenge

So if you are like me and have oyster and fish sauce but rarely use them, or if you have always wanted to buy and try them, join me this month in discovering Asian cuisine. No boundaries! If there is an Asian element to the dish, I want to hear about it. Is there something you have always wanted try? Let me know! I am planning on making pot stickers, rice paper rolls, dumplings… but would love to hear your ideas and suggestions. I must mention that I do not deep fry foods or eat pork but other than that, bring it on!

May the Year of the White Metal Tiger be bold and exciting for everyone, especially when it comes to flavours in our food!

Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. I look forward to dumplings, only ever tried the frozen kind. I picked up a bottle of “Ponzu” at Loblaw’s yesterday, it is a citrus seasoned soy sauce, any ideas where I can use it? And I have a request-Fried Rice. I usually make it with packaged seasoning, maybe you might have a fresher take on it? Love the display photo. Nice Tiger!

Ooooh us too..I love doing Chinese New Year.. This is the first year in many that I do not have a pack of preschoolers to celebrate with…it will be odd..as we usually create kites and play games..not to mention the wonderful food we try. I guess I will have to be creative and do something new!!
My hubby is heavy on the oyster sauce..to salty for me. We do love Chinese food. Hugs, Sarah

Asian inspired food? Cool! I’ve never cooked much Asian food. Just those pork rolls you wrote about, but does that even count? lol. I can’t wait to see what you do! I’ll learn so much just from reading your posts.

We are lucky to have a large Filipino Community here…so we have a couple specialty stores that cater to them. My Favorite is AsiaMart haha. About as close to Pender Street as I am gonna get up here. I’ll do a lil Blog on it at some point for ya!

I have never really cooked anything “authentically” Chinese. I look forward to the delights that will be created in your kitchen!
