When I was a little girl running around my neighbourhood with my pillow case on this magical day, I always looked forward to getting licorice, it was always my favourite. I would trade away my chocolate for the little red gleamy slices without hesitation. It was not until I became an adult that I started to care for chocolate. Now I buy chocolate for the trick or treaters but am happy to also give away my favourite, liquorice.
In my old neighbourhood in North York there was always one house that gave away chips, one house where a dentist lived who gave away toothbrushes (we always attempted to avoid his house but went to it by mistake every single year) and my favourite unusual treat came from a lady who would give individual packages of hot chocolate. As soon as I came home I would put on the kettle and look forward to warming up to her hot chocolate.
As an adult I always make sure to keep a little of the candy aside for me and my husband so if we run out, we will also have some treats in the end. Last year we only had about 15 kids, most of them teens who did not even bother with costumes. Still, I believe in Halloween, in giving to strangers on this long and dark night. I have no fears there will be more than enough leftover when the doorbells stops ringing.
What are your favourite Halloween treats to get and give away? Did you get anything unusual when you were a kid?
Make sure to link to your blog or photo tomorrow here of your fantastic Halloween! You can pretty much link to anything that is Halloween-inspired at all. I hope everyone has a fantastic and spooky but safe night tonight!

In my town everyone always goes to Rolling Hills- the old folks home. When I was a little kid you just used to walk around with your bag and each person would give you a piece of candy. Now they get together and make up a bag for each person to take with them. I would always love going there because I’d always leave with an apple that I could eat right away.
I’ll be taking pictures all afternoon! 🙂

Suzie, any of your lovely Foodie Halloween posts would be wonderful additions to our Day of the Dead celebration. I know it isn’t exactly the same, but please feel free to add your link to Mister Linky and let Fest goers know how to find you! For sure! xoxoxo k-

Growing up we knew all our neighbors and one kind lady used to make toffee apples for us! Real honest to goodness caramel apples on a stick! She would wrap then in cellophane of course.
Remember those molasses toffees? Halloween Kisses. They would always be the last to go of my Halloween haul. They could easily take out a filling!

Ha ha, we’re also giving away the exact same mixture of little chocolate bars and licorice as in your photo! Samhain blessings to you and your husband!

I always was mad for chocolate. So I use to give my mom all the other candy: gum drops, sweethearts, tootsie rolls. She loved eating all that stuff..i give her some of my chocolate too. She got so much of the other stuff, she rarely wanted the chocolate.
This year I won’t be home to give out candy. I always buy candy I like, so if there is stuff left over I can eat it.

I loved the reeces peanut butter cups and black licorice as a kid, still do! I really enjoyed all the Halloween treats on your food blog this year. Fun!
