I tested a couple of recipes from Gibbs Smith‘s book Little Monsters Cookbook and here you see my rendition of their Coffin Crunchers!
I did not have pitas so I used tortillas instead. I cut out Halloween shapes, put them on a parchment-lined baking sheet:
I brushed on some olive oil, Italian seasoning and some Parmesan. I had used up all my brick Parmesan so I used some of the freshly grated kind and added some smoked paprika to it for colour and flavour.
I baked in a 425F oven for five minutes. Pitas take longer so you keep them in for 10-12 minutes but I knew these would be done in no time and I was right.
Now of course I needed a dipper and found this fantastic authentic hummus recipe at allrecipes.com. The key to good hummus? Lots of fresh lemon juice and roasted garlic. Yum!
Flavours for both the crunchers and hummus were fantastic! The hummus had the authentic flavour I was looking for and the crunchers had great texture and flavour. Definitely Halloween party worthy. I give these recipes five out of five wooden spoons. My husband had never had hummus before (shocking, I know) but wow, did he ever love this! I had to take it away from him right away or there would be none left for my party.
The best part? Right after I took this photograph the looming tombstone fell on the ghost and decapitated it! Oh I laughed my butt off. There was even a distinct crunching sound. Truly a spooky end to this little photoshoot.

Those cutters are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!
The recipe sounds delicious. Super yums. The concept of the shapes and dips is doable with different bases and dips. *Paula jots down idea 😉 *

As always, your Halloween themed food just rocks! The hummus sounds so yummy, I’ve been on the lookout for a good recipe, going to have to try this one. As for the falling tombstone…Hmmm sounds like like some paranormal activity perhaps? Possibly a little Halloween spirit with a sense of humour.

What a great (and cute) idea! And OMG, your husband has never had hummus before? Good thing you’ve introduced him to it!
