Did we ever get spoiled by President’s Choice again! I got to try out some of their Black Label products while having a High Tea experience for my Mom and my sisters. We put them through the test to make sure that they were Mother’s Day worthy and absolutely impressive. I chose Mixed Berry Tea, Truffles Dusted With Cocoa and Black Currant Jam.
The PC Black Label Collection is not only available at Atlantic Superstores across Atlantic Canada and Dominion in Newfoundland, I also discovered many of them in Toronto! I found the Truffles on sale for $6.99 and the Mixed Berry Tea for $5.99…
… but did not discover the Black Currant Jam but as you can see, a plethora of other products were available.
The Products
I knew I wanted a jam for sure and my mom used to grow currants in her garden so the Black Currant Jam was a no-brainer. Wow, look at that colour! This jam is imported from Belgium.
My family is more of a tradition black tea drinking family but I thought the Mixed Berry Tea would add some elegance to the High Tea experience. The tea is made with Thai lemon grass, Egyptian hibiscus, Brazilian açai and North American blueberry, along with a hint of licorice root and zesty orange peel. I will admit, I was absolutely sceptical.
How could I say no to Truffles Dusted With Cocoa? Velvety chocolate imported from France? Bittersweet chocolate with ganache centre? I could not say no damn it!
The High Tea Experience
My sister Jamie and I went on a bit of a shopping spree, buying hats, scarves and funky outfits for us all to wear. Several people took photographs of us on the way to our Mom’s. Jamie went with the classic Coco Chanel and I dressed more 70s tretro and this might be the only time you ever see me wearing a big floppy pink hat.
We met up with Shannon on the streetcar and she immediately got changed! Always the wild child.
We knew Shannon needed something wild and colourful as always and she loved the outfit!
First we had to brew the Mixed Berry Tea. My mom does not have a teapot so we got water boiling, took it off the heat and added the individually wrapped in pyramid-shaped tea bags. We steeped for four minutes and had this dark red and luscious tea all ready to be sipped out of pretty teacups while we snacked on lots of food.
We also brought to the table my homemade Subway cookies, crackers for the jam, beautiful store-bought scones (I tried but I could not do everything), egg salad sandwiches and pink-blushed grapes.
Foodie Conclusion
We loved everything! Honestly, the tea almost kicked me over with its deliciousness and I really do not like herbal tea. It was refreshing, strong, beautiful, wild and still slightly delicate. I had it with one sugar cube and was in heaven and we all were blown away by it.
The truffles were super decadent and as the day got warmer, they started to melt so no more elegant eating as we licked chocolate off our fingers. You may want to chill these a little ahead of time if it is getting warm where you are. Still, they felt so decadent and perfect for the High Tea experience.
The biggest hit of all was the black currant jam. We all could not stop eating it. The jam’s texture, thickness and flavour were perfect. I love it when a jam capture the simple majesty of a humble fruit and takes it to a higher level and President’s Choice Black Label did just that.
We all agreed that everything was perfect for our special day together. These Black Label products are the height of foodie professionalism and are definitely Mother’s Day High Tea worthy. We give these products five out of five wooden spoons.
Thank you President’s Choice for giving us the opportunity to get dressed up and have sophisticated foodie fun with my family.

Oh yes, when taking High Tea, one simply MUST wear an elegant hat and keep one’s pinkie in the air! Pip pip! Looks like a very fun occasion and a great way to celebrate Mothers Day.
