The Location
The Hilltop Diner Cafe at 23904 Fraser Highway between Langley and Aldergrove is famous! Not just for its pies. It is used as a setting for many TV and film sets so make sure to contact them before you visit to make sure they will be open to the public that day.
They have been serving food for 68 years and if you try and locate them through Google maps you will notice quite quickly you may end up going in the wrong direction. Watch the numbers on the buildings to make sure you are going the right way!
I have been wanting to visit the cafe ever since I found out about it but it is not exactly close to us. I follow their Facebook page and they always seem to be serving delicious diner food which I just love!
The Inspiration
When I found out that friends of our from the East Coast were visiting and staying in the area I knew it would be the perfect place to visit. I did not realize just how tiny and busy the place would be so expect a bit of a wait.
The Food
I was too late for the breakfast menu so I got their all day breakfast instead. It was a tough call.
When I saw Reg’s Hilltop Burger I realized that is what I should have ordered, damn it! My breakfast was good but look at that! Be prepared for a bit of a mess when you eat it and the portion sizes are very generous.
The place was packed with people getting ready for the long weekend and you have to talk quite loudly to be heard but it was worth it.
Note that the place closes at 2:30 each day so try and get there for noon or earlier if you really want to hang out.
We were a little late because a car ran out of gas in the centre lane of the highway right in front of us!
Still, it was worth the drive. Look at that bumbleberry pie Reg ordered! I had a bite. It was fantastic and so delicate it kind of fell apart on the way to the plate.
Allisa’s pie faired a little better but still, so tender!
I could not go to a diner cafe and NOT get a chocolate milkshake. I wish I had known it was going to come with whipped cream. Not a fan. It was removed.
The milkshake comes with that extra stainless steel container with tons of extra shake so everyone got a bit of a taste and it was a delicious classic chocolate milkshake. Beautiful!
If you order a Mountain or Everest Burger you will get your photo on the wall of the foyer of the restaurant. These people FEED you!
What a fun and delicious way to spend the afternoon catching up with friends over food. Hilltop Diner Cafe has tons of charm, great customer service and pretty awesome food. It totally lived up to my expectations and I had such a good time I got a little homesick. Life on the west coast is awesome but hanging out with friends from back home? Priceless.

The Hilltop Burger comes with “double smoked bacon, fried mushrooms, fried onions and smothered in gooey cheese. Laid out on a bun with mayo and our Signature Hilltop sauce and topped with crisp lettuce…” Looks so good!

I always end up liking what my hubby orders more than what I order, always!!!

Rain Frances, I always feel up to going out to a diner! In fact I did again over this weekend, LOL. Good thing I got my cholesterol tested BEFORE these trips! And yes, love their policy, especially since the place is small. It’s nice to know once you get a table you can just relax and connect.
