Me and Mom in the car, taking off for a little day trip. I think a lot of my adventurous spirit has come from my Mom. She loves going places so she can photograph them and that is what I live for too. Even though the weather was crappy it did make for some interest photograph-taking. She has not been feeling that great so we just drove around and then rested here and there.
We had over-priced paninis at this pub/cafe in Wolfville. Great ambiance and nice atmosphere but the food and hot chocolate, not super hot.
A fellow photographer taking pictures of the red sands and misty waters at Evangeline Beach. This is the reason why I like taking pictures outside on wet and grey days, so moody and wonderful. Makes me homesick though. This is BC’s winter weather! It has been cold and dark since my Mom got here. The sun came out today, thank god.
Now this was just plain bizarre so I had to include it. Before turning around and driving back we stopped at what was supposed to be a Robin’s Donut Shop. There were no donuts but there was a laundry mat with a mural and they sold fried chicken in a convenience store. Bizarre!
When we came back I made lobster crepes for dinner with a tragically broken Bernaise sauce. Mental note: never leave a sauce to its own devices. Additional mental note: make rice first so you don’t have a sauce sitting for an extra 20 minutes! It was still so decadent and beautiful but took me forever to make. I think we ate dinner at 9 pm!
It is so lovely having my Mom here to share things with. Even if we are just hanging out watching the first season of In Treatment, we are having fun. Still, showing her a little of Nova Scotia was a blast. Thank goodness everything has finally gone green and the weather is finally improving.

I’m glad you had a cool adventure with your mom! It sounds like you had fun. The laundry mat thing is odd. The convenience store fried chicken I would have considered odd until our local convenience store started selling hot dogs, soup, chili, homemade canned things, and fresh fruit. xD

I stumbled across your Blog and found it a pleasant read over my morning coffee. I especially enjoyed the moodiness of the beach photo, it was really quite lovely. I have not been to Nova Scotia since my days in the US Navy.
Do you remember the name of the pub you photographed, the one with the overpriced paninis? It looks eerily similar to one of my designs.
All the best,
Michael

Suzie –
what a treat to have your mum to visit! & the day trip sounds fun –
The mural reminds me of one in an ice cream shop in our old town (gone now) – a mural of counters with various ‘celebs’ having ice cream!! Inc. folks from Star Trec & other shows (this was mid 70s), etc. As you say, odd to see in a laundromat!
BTW – just saw the new star Trec movie – it was GREAT! (always loved the shows!) . . .
cheers!

I love Wolfville and for you it is so close, just pop up onto the highway and zoom:) Next time you must try eating at the Evangeline Motel restaurant. Best pies in the province. We’ve been going there since I was a kid.
Glad you are having fun with your mum.

great pix! Your day trip sounds wunderbar and I can’t believe how adorable your mom looks!
That laundromat shot tricked my brain for a moment. It looks like the hull of a large boat set out to sea. (with lots of little windows)
