As I prepare to delve into taking the next step into my foodie adventure, I fall in love with Pete’s Frootique all over again. Where I live you have two major grocery stores and that is it. For me to get to Pete’s I have to take a bus closer to town but when I do, what joy! This is a foodie’s paradise.
There was a woman with her teenage daughter shopping for swiss chard. The daughter refused to let her mom buy the swiss chard, it was not good enough and Tuesdays were not good produce-shopping days. The mom thought it was funny and still picked up the chard but the daughter took it out of her hands and put it back on the shelf. High standards and lots of passion, she is a true foodie. If I had known anything about food at that age, that would have been me at the store, putting not-good-enough produce back too.
My real food journey did not start until after university but I have spent a lot of time since then learning everything I can about food. And I feel like I have barely begun. How exciting!

When I was in Halifax a couple of years ago, I visited Pete’s Frootique for the first time. After watching Pete on CBC’s noon show for so many years, it was like visiting a Canadian shrine, LOL! Toodleedoo!
