The first time Japan Crate sent me one of their phenomenal candy boxes from their subscription service, my unboxing video went haywire and was lost forever because the file got corrupted. You can see me making my confession about it here.
Because they are so very awesome and wonderful people, they sent me the July box. Hopefully I redeemed myself in this unboxing!
I highly recommend watching the video to see our reactions to the various wild food products and especially, the chewing of “Sour Lemon Gum”.
I actually had my eyes water and my mouth go completely dry and Reg struggled to continue to hold the camera as we were blown away by the power of sour! I LOVE sour and this threw me for a loop and (it is embarrassing to admit) it is quite hysterical to see me suffer.
Highlights & Lowlights
There were 12 products in the box and here are some honourable mentions. Reg and I both loved Corn Potage Chips that really do melt in your mouth.
The pepperiness combined with the crunch of Potekoro Cubes made them fun to eat and reminded me of munching on croutons.
I was not super-happy to see that they included Adzuki Mizu Yokan, a traditional Japanese dessert made with red beans in a sweet gel-like texture. You can watch me eat it here.
I finished everything off with Kids Beer! I love that Kodomo No Nomimono was created so children can be included in various beverage rituals. It has become so popular that it is even sold in Japanese bars and restaurants. This one tasted like vanilla pop. Reg liked it but it was way too sweet for me.
Thank you Japan Crate for the wonderfully surreal candy experience! From gummies and jellies to Chameleon Candy to pastes and chews… your candy subscription service is so much fun, so exciting… I give the experience five out of five wooden spoons. I was thrilled, shocked, horrified and had so much fun with each and every product that normally I would never get to try.
We love you Japan Crate!

I’ve had those lemon candies. I had to spit them out too. LOL. I gave one to a friend of ours and she just ate it like it was a regular candy… no reaction at all. She apparently eats lemons all the time just for fun… crazy.
