Killer Mocha Sorbet

As you know, I am crazy about anything mocha flavoured. When I was a kid, coffee ice cream was among my favourite things in the world.

The idea that I can take leftover coffee, make a chocolate syrup in minutes and come up with this easy low-fat but super tasty sorbet any time I want is why I love being a foodie. I can take mundane kitchen ingredients and make this killer sorbet.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Yes, you will need an ice cream maker for this recipe but if you do not have one, try making a granita instead! I personally can not live without my ice cream maker.

Homemade frozen treats are so much better for you than store-bought which are usually filled with additives and preservatives. This recipe is low in fat, high in flavour with very few ingredients so it is cheap to make!

The Recipe

First you will need to make the chocolate sauce. Put 1 cup sugar, 1 cup cocoa and 3/4 cup water in a medium sauce pan.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Whisk over medium heat constantly until sugar dissolves, around 5 minutes.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

I like to sieve the sauce into a bowl. Cool completely and chill in the fridge.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Whisk together 3 cups cold coffee and 1 can condensed sweetened milk.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Whisk together coffee, condensed sweetened milk and syrup until well combined.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Pour slowly into frozen ice cream maker.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Let churn for at least 25 minutes. When it comes to frozen treats, the longer it is in the frozen ice cream maker the better. The biggest mistake is taking it out too soon.

Killer Mocha Sorbet

Put in container and chill. Sorbets can be hard to serve so leave it out on the counter for around 10 minutes.

This is tasty on its own but it is also fabulous in milkshakes and smoothies! It ended up being “killer” good because I forget I used Reg’s coffee which means it was filled with caffeine, LOL. The first time I had it I got all spun out of control and wondered where all this energy came from.

Next time? Decaf!

Reg loved it too but I make sure to serve it as an afternoon treat and not in a dinner time smoothie.

Ice cream maker is on my wish list.

    Looks amazing.

And those prices for ice cream, in my area,
even with sales and coupons, is still sky-high.

You would love having one Ivy! Keep an eye out for sales and coupons like you always do, this is the time of year I bought mine. It’s true, frozen treats are so expensive!

Thanks. I will do that because I love ice cream but hate that some of it
is made with such crap ingredients. Though I tell ya, I really do fancy
Ben & Jerry’s Fish Food. Only they spell Fish differently. I forget how.

Fish food? Yes, I do hope it’s spelled differently, LOL. My fav is Haagen Dazs’ coffee ice cream, OMG!

Going to make this as I am a mocha fan too. Is there any particular reason to sieve the sauce first?

Alright Amelia! Thrilled to hear it. I forgot to sieve the cocoa before going in the pot so I sieved it afterwards to make sure there were no lumps but feel free to skip it!
