Here we are at the final instalment of the Luvo product reviews. I began with the Farmer’s Market Frittata & Orange Mango Chicken, followed by the Kale Ricotta Ravioli. Now for something kind of different. Their Chicken Coconut Curry Burrito.
The Product
The packaging says it contains 83% organic ingredients and they are not kidding. From the white vinegar, to the tikka masala sauce and even the Turmeric Flaxseed Tortilla… All organic. Ironically, the chicken is not!
When it comes to the food prep there is also a big difference. The burrito must be defrosted in a microwave for a minute and a half out of its wrapper.
Then you are supposed to wrap it in aluminum foil and place on a baking sheet. I do not cook food on aluminum foil for health reasons so I also added a layer of parchment paper.
I baked it in a preheated 375F oven for 30 minutes and let it rest for a couple of minutes once it came out of the oven.
Foodie Results
This burrito was dry! So very dry inside but a lot of burritos can be like that. I definitely got the curry flavour and they did a great job of sneaking in the organic quinoa without me noticing.
I ended up having to get some salsa to really start enjoying the burrito. Just too dry to eat on its own. I thought the tortilla was excellent and as I said, the curry flavour was there but honestly did not notice any of the organic coconut at all.
In some ways this product is a success. It is a much healthier frozen burrito than a lot of others out there and I think it is great they used so many organic products like the chickpeas but find it odd that the one ingredient that probably counts the most if it is organic was not labelled organic. The chicken!
A valiant effort but left me wanting. I wish I could have skipped using the microwave and do not want to cook my food in aluminum foil.
I give this product three out of five wooden spoons.
