My favourite salsa recipe

My Homemade Salsa

Tomatoes are ripening around here so it is a great time to make some homemade salsa! Now I made this salsa with half-priced store-bought tomatoes that were ultra ripe so you do not need home-grown to make it but imagine how good it would be?

SUZIE’S SALSA RECIPE

To make my life easier I used a food processor but you do not have to. Just chop up:

5-6 tomatoes and take out the liquid and seeds
1/2 a bell pepper, I used orange, chop it up
1/2 a red onion, diced
1 jalapeno de-seeded and de-ribbed, diced very small
Handful of chopped Italian parsley because I loathe cilantro but cilantro is authentic so if you want the authentic flavour, use cilantro
Juice of one lemon and one lime
Salt and pepper
And….

My Homemade Salsa

Yup, I grate in at least one clove of fresh garlic. We talked about this on my Facebook page, some people think this is entirely normal, others think it is weird. I do not usually see it in salsa recipes but it is in mine! Pulse until everything is combined but still a little chunky. If it is too watery, strain off some of the liquid.

My Homemade Salsa

This is the perfect salsa for dipping! Tastes like summer and joy. It is a little watery so I would not put this on top of enchiladas. Take my word for it!

Do you have a recipe for salsa? Is it very different than this one? It amazes me how many kinds of salsa there are out there. I have a blueberry-inspired one that I won from Occasions Magazine that I am going to have to try. I am pretty traditional so it will be interesting to see if I like it! Do you prefer unusual flavours or are you more of a traditional foodie?

Mmmm, that salsa looks great! Putting it in a green dish makes it look even better!

I second your feelings towards cilantro. Ugh. Glad to find a recipe that I know will taste great prepared with parsley. I’ve tried many salsas before but always felt a bit disappointed because the parsley didn’t quite “parse” with the rest of the flavors. Will definitely give this a try!

I have a few different salsa recipes that I make, and I’m pretty sure they all have garlic. Interesting that there would be a debate about it. But to each their own, right? I happen to love cilantro so we use it, but I don’t think that means that everyone else has to. Make it how you like it – salsa is one of those things that is very versatile. 🙂

I thought everyone put garlic in their salsa. Huh. Learn something new every day. Love the option of parsley or cilantro. Makes for a totally different flavor. Amanda

I think garlic is an absolute must for Salsa, I also throw a little in my Guacomole as well. It really gives the sauce more zing! I’m also with you on the cilantro, I don’t mind it but don’t love it either, the rest of the family gives it a big “nay”, so I don’t use it.

Looks delicious! Like you, I use garlic in my salsa. Unlike you, I loathe parsley, but I love cilantro. I even substitute cilantro in other recipes that call for parsley. As another idea, I occasionally add diced avocado to salsa (better to dice by hand and add to the bowl after food processing).

Beautiful photos, by the way! I definitely could go for some salsa now.
