What an interesting idea for the holidays… Flavoured syrup! Not just any flavour either. Bacon flavoured.
“Canadian maple syrup enriched with another beloved breakfast favourite, smoky bacon flavouring, in this luscious new pancake topper. Aside from its vast potential at the breakfast table, use to glaze turkey, chicken and salmon, whisk in salad dressings, swirl in holiday cocktails and pour over butter pecan ice cream.”
The syrup is naturally flavoured and I was a little wary of putting it on Reg’s pancakes because he is not a big fan of pork but he gave it a shot.
I just put a thin layer on the pancakes and… he liked it. The funny thing?
I didn’t! I found it very overpowering. Too much like pork perfume for me. I was really surprised. I ended up using mostly regular syrup and having the flavour be more in the background.
That said, I find the idea of cooking with it to bring a sweet porky goodness to a savoury dish intriguing. Just don’t put it on my pancakes.
Innovative, creative and powerful… I give this product four out of five wooden spoons.
