Pete’s Holiday Hoopla!

December 14, 2009 by Suzie the Foodie 6 Comments

Pete's Holiday Hoopla!

On Sunday December 13th my husband and I set out to Sunnyside Mall in Bedford, Nova Scotia, to be a part of Pete’s Frootique’s Holiday Hoopla! There was a pianist playing Christmas songs at the entrance which we could barely get through because the crowd was enormous! When we made it inside we were greeted by a barber quartet:

They were fantastic and truly set a holiday foodie mood! Pete’s is the place to go if you are a foodie, you can find just about everything there including…

Pete's Holiday Hoopla!

According to Trevor, this is actually a romanesco broccoli, I thought it was cauliflower! Thanks Trevor! Yes, Pete’s has just about everything food item you can think of and more. Amongst all of the madness and shopping and taste testing you could also watch food demonstrations:

Truly a wild and celebratory time was had at Pete’s and this foodie’s cart was full of hard-to-find items including chestnuts which I am going to try and roast for the first time and our favourite drink of all time, Elderflower Presse. A non-alcoholic beverage that reminds us a little of lychee fruit but is the best palette cleanser in the world and is so lovely. It always takes us back to happy memories because we always serve it at dinners for friends and family. We have been searching for this drink for almost two years so how exciting to pick some up for the holidays!
The holidays are officially here, time to pick up those special ingredients for those rare treats and get cooking and baking in our kitchens!

Oh, it’s actually called Romanesco Broccoli, and because of it’s tender nature, it is often used raw in crudites – preserving it’s fractal shape perfectly.
