Recently President’s Choice sent me a box of treats. Today I will be reviewing their Biscuits For Breakfast • Oats with Vanilla Yogurt Filling and Wild Berry Fruit Twists.
There are still many more product reviews to come! You can watch my unboxing video where I reveal all of them here.
The kid in me immediately loved the idea of the Wild Berry Fruit Twists. I thought the “twist” was a cute way to add texture and a unique design to this fruit snack.
When I tasted it I was immediately reminded of their Berry Blend Little Penguin Bites when it came to flavour but these are much less dangerous to eat. In fact, they were fun to eat! They reminded me of liquorice and I LOVE liquorice but this is made with all sorts of juices and pectin.
The one thing I do not like about them is the glazing agent contains shellac and beeswax. I personally do not care enough about the glaze to want to eat shellac and beeswax. This knocks down my rating a lot.
I give this product three and a half out of five wooden spoons. Next time? Skip the glaze!
Biscuits For Breakfast • Oats with Vanilla Yogurt Filling
As you can probably tell from the above photo, I was a bit confused how to open the box of Biscuits For Breakfast • Oats with Vanilla Yogurt Filling. I opened the end as I normally would but then realized, there was a flap on top.
Sort of a cardboard drawbridge to the biscuits inside. The box says, “Satisfyingly crunchy biscuits made with whole grains, almonds and a rich vanilla yogurt creme filling – perfect as part of a complete balanced breakfast that includes fresh fruit and lower fat milk and milk alternatives.” So these are a supplementary breakfast biscuit.
I was quite impressed to discover that the biscuits also have whole grain: barley, spelt and rye flour. You can taste the wholesome goodness when you eat these bars and not in a bad way. Well, at first I was a little wary. They are dry and obviously very healthy but then I tasted the yummy vanilla yogurt filling and it was not too sweet and worked well as a whole… I was converted.
I am not entirely sure why these are wrapped with two biscuits per package because one biscuit with a big glass of water was enough for me. That meant I was left with an extra one in an already-opened package. That ended up not being a big problem because Reg likes these too so we split them but that will not be the case for everyone.
This is a product that I was unconvinced of at first but the quality is so good we will probably buy these regularly. Yes, they are healthy tasting. No, I would not say these taste like cookies. To help fill the corners up in the morning though? Absolutely. I would recommend they reconsider the packaging though.
I give this product four and a half out of five wooden spoons.
