One of the goodies that came with the President’s Choice Insiders Collection was their PC Eggplant with Muhammara Dip. I had never heard of muhammara dip before. I wanted to try it without knowing anything about it but for those who are curious I found this video.
Product Review
This is what I saw when I opened the container. It looked like baba ganoush with a chunky roasted red pepper centre. And that is pretty much what it is!
Ingredients: Roasted eggplant (eggplant, salt, citric acid), olive oil, tahini (sesame seed paste), garlic purée (garlic, canola oil, citric acid), roasted red pepper (red pepper, water, salt, citric acid, calcium chloride), concentrated lemon juice, sea salt, walnuts, modified corn starch, concentrated pomegranate juice, black pepper, rice flour crumbs (water, potato starch, white rice flour, yeast, salt, sugar), xanthan gum, citric acid, smoke flavour, smoked paprika, cumin, spice extract.
The creamy texture juxtaposed with the wild red chunky texture looked very cool.
The bits of walnut in the centre muhammara created a nutty tapenade effect. Although you can taste the spices in the dip, I disagree that there is much heat at all.
I liked the dip because it was interesting. A bit of a wild ride when it comes to flavours and textures. But, I did not love it. I found it more of an intellectual treat than something my tummy would crave. Still, for the curious foodie, this is the perfect product. It is unlike anything I have ever had before and am glad I tried it.
I give this product three and a half out of five wooden spoons.
