I have been meaning to check out President’s Choice’s “Free From” products for a while now.
With turkey weekend upon us in Canada and not everyone wanting or needing to roast an entire turkey, I thought today would be the perfect day to post this review.
Shopping for the Product
The Free From Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast was suggested to me by President’s Choice when they sent me their mystery box. The hard part was finding it. By the description, I thought it was going to be a raw turkey breast I could cook for Thanksgiving. I asked for help in the meat department and they had a hard time tracking it down too. Then, they realized, it was deli meat!
Product Packaging
The turkey meat comes in a very cool packaging. Normally you have to use scissors to open the damn package and then put it in a plastic bag or try and put it back in the package wrapped in plastic wrap.
Not this package! You literally have to lift up a seal on the bottom right-hand corner and that is it. The best part? To close it, you just seal back shut.
Foodie Conclusion
I made turkey sandwiches with the product using “everything” bagels, Havarti cheese and lots of mustard. I was surprised at how thick the slices were. I found them to be quite “meaty.” I made the next sandwich with just two slices per sandwich which I enjoyed more. Which is good because I think you get close to 10 slices for $5.79, although I found it on sale for $5.29.
The turkey was good. Reg and I both liked it very much and these sandwiches rocked. I love that we can have deli meat without being scared of what we are eating. I also love that we are supporting local farmers. I just find the price a little too high.
For a Thanksgiving sandwich for those who are loathed to roast a turkey, go for it. Pick up a package today and make a hero sandwich out of it! For those who would never have deli meat if it was not as healthy and safe as this product, I say buy it.
For me? I found the product disappeared into sandwiches so fast for a lot of money. It is not something I would buy all the time but for the nights I just have zero energy to cook, I would pick this up for a fabulous panini dinner. I give this product four out of five wooden spoons.
