Things have to change with my blog. My health has been crap and I thought doing product reviews this summer would be a great way to add content without too much work. I was so wrong.
See, you never know when things are going to arrive and a lot of the time, they arrive in a bit of an avalanche. If they are appliances, they also take a lot of time product testing and I like to be as thorough as possible.
I work really hard on my product reviews and try and be professional as I can. This summer, however, I let companies down. A lot. I could not keep up with emails, with the pace and spent a lot of the summer unconscious and exhausted in bed feeling like a failure and a loser.
This kitchen chaos is the result of filming three videos in one day which totally ended up kicking my ass. It is just too much.
Now I am not saying I will never do product reviews. What I am saying is right now if I do any, it will be because I picked something up and wanted to share my opinion with you. Also, the company I enjoyed testing for the most, President’s Choice, just sort of dropped me. I’m sure it wasn’t personal, we adore each other, but something’s going on there and I haven’t heard from them since December.
I think I need my blog to be more personal again. More about storytelling and less about wooden spoon ratings. I am going old school. I tried to compete with the mega food blogs out there but my health just won’t let me be the foodie rockstar I want to be. And that’s OK. What makes me happy is playing with food. Once it becomes a job, I get really sick. And I have had enough of that.
I am thrilled to hear that you are going to be taking care of yourself and doing what you need to do to get better. I’ll be here to cheer you along your new foodie adventures.
Yes, story telling, you are not *just* a product reviewer. And please, some recipes you come up with too (as I told you when you mentioned a cookbook), it comes back to the personal and not just the «I tried this recipe from here or there» (even if it is good to have an honest opinion).
Take care of your health, know your own boundaries. You learned a lot about what you want and what you can and can’t do this summer so you are far from being a loser.
Chin up, smile <3
Take care of yourself Suzie and find that fun again. I enjoy your videos so keep them coming!
You’re absolutely right, Suzie — blogging has to be fun or what’s the point? Don’t beat yourself up over not having the energy to do product reviews. Take some time for yourself, build up your energy reserves and then just do your own thing again!
I’ve recently decided to do the same thing. I had been a “food blogger” for a while and I stopped blogging for myself… which is why I started blogging in the first place. I’m excited to hear more about YOU
Suzie, i always love your blogs, they’re informative (even when certain foods aren’t available here and i have no idea what you’re on about. Lol) fun and funny.
Since i started following you, i have finally got the baking bug, mainly because of the fun you have shown.
I sorta know what your going through, i know that when things become a chore, they become a bore and you don’t feel like doing it anymore. (wow! Sounds like a poem😃) So i will look forward to your next show and tell on your own time.
Take care.
