I am going to be totally honest here. I was almost afraid to product test Glo’s PC Luscious Lemon Pudding Cakes. Why? Did you see her on Recipe to Riches? The woman is absolutely adorable. I watched the first episode with my sister Jamie who looked at me as the judges deliberated and said, “I would hate to be on that panel.” It was true, saying no to Glo would be practically impossible.
Don’t believe me? Read my interview this charming woman who shared her television experience with me and you will see, she really is as lovely as she appears on camera. More so in fact. Thank goodness I did not know that before I put her cakes in the oven.
President’s Choice has been sending me the winning products each week to put through my test kitchen. When you purchase Glo’s PC Luscious Lemon Pudding Cakes for $6.99 you get four little cakes in these plastic containers covered in plastic.
I was immediately concerned. I hate cooking anything in plastic. Of course you take off the plastic covering but you keep the cake in the container. Baking in plastic never appeals to me and actually always worries me.
After it comes out of the oven you let it sit for a minute and then use your spoon to loosen up the cake so you can slide it onto a plate.
Doh! My first attempt ended with cake stuck to the bottom.
I scooped the rest out on top of the cake which made it quite a mess but you know, I really do not care a ton about foodie aesthetics, despite being a food photographer. Yummy food is always beautiful to me.
So… Was it delicious? Would I pay $6.99 for four of these cakes? Damn straight. You bet I would!
Glo’s dessert is a perfect balance of sweet and sour. The cake is light as air and even though I did eventually successfully remove one of the cakes, I just had to slather the natural sauce on top. A beautiful moist cake with a stunning lemon sauce, it is genius in its simplicity and mystery. To learn more about the unusual cake, read my interview with Glo.
I can absolutely understand why this dessert is a winner. Glo has managed to maintain natural flavours in a mass produced dessert that tastes homemade. Not a small foodie feat! To quote the packaging of her dessert: “…it’s made with pure lemon juice and zest as well as whole milk and eggs…and, as Glo would tell you, it’s also ‘made with love.'”
I absolutely believe it! And thank goodness! I went into the interview already in love with her dessert and charmed by her personality.
As much as I want to give the product a perfect score, baking in a plastic container is preventing me from doing so. The container also does not appear to be recyclable. There is no official recycling number rating/code on the bottom. None of which is Glo’s fault but I do have to take that into consideration with my rating. I give this product four and a half out of five wooden spoon.
If Glo does not win and I can not pick up her dessert at my Superstore, I am relieved to hear that Recipe to Riches has shared all the recipes from the show on Food Network Canada’s web page. You can find Glo’s special recipe here. Which is a relief considering both Reg and I fell in love with this elegant yet comforting treat. I will absolutely be making it myself (and in my ramekin dishes, LOL).

They look heavenly and I can’t wait to try them. I’ve got a beautiful collection of ramekins waiting to be filled with some luscious lemon puddings and I would love to try Glo’s recipe. I wish the boxes came with more than four because that is just not enough to feed this lemon loving family lol.
