This photograph is very misleading, there is NO interior light!
I finally did it! Ever since we bought our home two and a half years ago I have been dreaming of the day we would buy a deep freezer! Since my ice cream maker is chronically in my freezer taking up a ton of space, I have had to keep what is in there to a minimum. Not anymore!!!!
My biggest issue was where was I going to buy the deep freezer? I live out in the boonies, my husband had some time off and I wanted to make getting one as simple as possible. I knew where the Sears was in Halifax so I called them up and asked them about this particular Kenmore Chest Freezer. The woman on the phone was very friendly and helpful and made sure there was one waiting for me when I arrived. Perfect!
I could not figure out from the measurements on their site just how big the freezer would be, I had to see it in person. Tah dah!!!! There it is. It is exactly the size I wanted it to be. Bigger than the mini freezer where the interior space is taken up by the motor. Smaller than the giant ones that take up a whole room. Love it!
Well it barely fit in our SUV but it did! My husband and a nice guy at Sears gently put it in the back of our SUV and saved us $60 in delivery fees. Yes! We got it home, careful got it downstairs and into our laundry room…
I wanted to cry. There was a dent in the lid, damn it! There was no way we were going all that way back in to town. I ran to the phone and called Sears. They said I had to call their head office tomorrow, the order was too new and not in the system yet. Bloody hell. Fine. There was no way we were taking it back ourselves so my husband got it out of the box.
This is where I wanted to the freezer to go, underneath our window and beside our washer and dryer. Turns out that you are not supposed to use extension cords so you have to move the deep freeze to the closest outlet. This meant turning it sideways which was no big deal.
I really do love having a basket to put stuff in that I use regularly. I have a lot of back pain so it saves me a lot of potential issues for items I use regularly like my frozen fruit.
It took almost two weeks to resolve the lid issue with Sears. They sent a guy to check out the lid to assess the situation. What they did to fix the problem was replace the top lid. The guy came on time, did a quick and efficient job. Finally, my deep freeze is now complete.
This is a very simple unit. You plug it in and leave it. If it gets too warm or cold, there is a numbered dial that you turn to change the temperature. The approximate energy it will add to my bills comes to $30 a year. I can live with that. Sears does not have the interior dimensions listed on their site, these are the numbers I came up with: length is just under 30″, width is just under 16 1/2″ and depth is just under 29″.
I give the Kenmore chest freezer four and a half out of five wooden spoons. It is exactly what it says it is and works great. My only issue is with the buzzing sound. I am super sensitive to noise but it did not seem that loud to me until I tried taking a nap in my family room and it did keep me awake. Keep in mind I have a sleeping disorder, the smallest sounds prevents me from sleeping. I closed the laundry room door and could no longer hear it. No worries.
I give Sears three out of five wooden spoons. This is not the first time I have had quality control issues with this company (long story), I do not like the fact that their photograph is misleading (this unit does not have an interior light) and even though they creatively solved the problem it took a long time to resolve. The box was not dented so obviously the product got dented while in the warehouse and then boxed. I know it is not a huge deal, it is cosmetic, but I spent close to $350 on this deep freeze and it tainted the whole experience for me and ended up costing me tons of time on the phone and waiting around for people to come and take care of it.

I don’t think you can buy this product anywhere else as Kenmore is a Sears product. I think I’m right in saying this but not 100%.
I have the same freezer but an older model and I like it but I don’t like the one basket that comes with it. I think there should be optional baskets if you want them. I find mine very hard to organise.

I didn’t realize that amelia, thank you so much! I wondered why I couldn’t find it on Amazon’s site, LOL. Sorry to hear you don’t like the basket, I was surprised it came with one at all but I bet there are other freezers out there that have more room and tools for organizing.

So happy for you to finally have a nice, big freezer. Oh you’re going to love it! We got one from my in-laws that they no longer needed, I think it was purchased in the 70’s (it has fake wood panelling and all lol) but it’s still going strong. Very convenient with our family and all those Costco purchases. Ours makes a loud humming or buzzing sound as well, just normal for the appliance. We have the same solution, just close the laundry room door:)
As for Sears, Kenmore is definitely their exclusive, house brand. As for their service, it definitely needs improvement, they were not so helpful with us when we were looking for our kitchen appliances, it was really like they could care less if they got the sale. And guess what? They did not get the sale. Oh well….

Ask me about the time my Rare One turned off our freezer “just for 5 minutes” while some electrical work was being done downstairs. A couple of weeks later, we discovered she hadn’t plugged it in again. Aichihuahua! But the lid seal was so good we never smelled a thing until we opened it up to get some steak out.
