For those who are new to my blog, please let me assure you that I do cook and bake my own food. I do not just sit and watch foodie shows on TV and review products from the supermarket.
That said, these last few months have been hell so I have been leaning on products more than usual and came across Campbell’s Everyday Gourmet Thai Tomato Coconut soup. It was such a wild foodie ride, I wanted to share. Trust me. If you had as many the-world-is-ending storms where you live you would have a lot of pre-fab food in your pantry too.
The Foodie Intel
One annoying aspect? All the cool intel about the product was on the box that I had to throw out and is not on the web site. If memory serves, there are no preservatives in this soup. I do know for sure that it is gluten-free.
Ingredients
WATER, TOMATO PASTE, CREAM (MILK), TOMATOES (TOMATOES, TOMATO JUICE, CITRIC ACID, CALCIUM CHLORIDE), SUGAR, DRIED COCONUT MILK (COCONUT MILK, MALTODEXTRIN, SODIUM CASEINATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE), DRIED POTATOES, MODIFIED CORN STARCH, CILANTRO, SALT, SHALLOTS, DRIED FISH SAUCE (ANCHOVIES, MALTODEXTRIN, SALT), DRIED GARLIC, FLAVOUR, SPICES, CITRIC ACID (FOR TARTNESS).
I love it when they write “flavour” because that could be anything! I think in this case, there is a ton of lemongrass which makes this soup so incredibly zingy and gives it an authentic Thai flavour. You know how I feel like there can never been too much flavour but this soup takes even me to the foodie edge. But I love that! It tastes Thai to me and is one hell of a makeover for your traditional tomato soup.
This soup is intense, exotic and fascinating. It is definitely not for everyone. You have to be a real open-minded foodie to tackle this bowl which intrigued the hell out of me. Well done Campbell’s. You have completely gotten on trend with the foodie world and did a great job doing so with your new Everyday Gourmet line of soups.
I give this $2.99 product four and a half out of five wooden spoons. It is original, flavourful, healthy and for a boxed soup absolutely impressive.
Coming Up
I was so impressed that right before the latest cataclysmic storm I picked up Campbell’s Everyday Gourmet Sweet Potato Tomatillo soup! Product review to come.

For me, that product has WAY too many ingredients that don’t need to be in soup, including maltodextrin. So it’s a big pass for me.
peppylady (Dora) says
Coconut is a nice add to soup. But I like my home made a lot better.

Dora: That’s how I feel as well. I don’t eat plastic soups. No offense to this company or Suzie.
Suzie Ridler says
I have never suggested store-bought is better than homemade. I live in a place where you must have emergency food available all through the year. I would rather have a product that is unique in flavour, interested and higher quality than others I have had to endure now over the last few years. This one is definitely better than the rest.
The Happy Whisk says
Hey Suzie – I apologize as I meant no offense. Also, I didn’t think you thought processed soups were better than homemade.
Though hey, even for those who do, it doesn’t matter because we all like different things. Look at me, I eat Jalapeno Cheetos and those are awful, but I still enjoy them.
Suzie Ridler says
Oh good, I’m just glad my message was clear! You totally have me craving Jalapeño Cheetos now. 🙂

Hi Suzie
I tried it today and really enjoyed it. I think it could work as a pasta sauce, or go really well with mussels.
Suzie Ridler says
Oh I am so happy to hear you enjoyed it too! And you’re right, mussels would be a great choice to go with them with pasta. 🙂
