I had such high hopes for Pacific Foods Hazelnut Chocolate Non-Dairy Beverage. I am crazy about hazelnuts and loved the idea of making a hazelnut “milk” and adding chocolate? It IS like Nutella in a glass! And I dreamed of the iced coffees I could make with it.
One cool thing about moving from coast to coast is I get to find and try many more products I would normally not discover. I found this product at London Drugs and it was $2.99.
Although I did end up loving the flavour (and the iced coffee) I discovered that there was just too much “sediment” and floaty bits in the drink. I know that can happen with boxed beverages that are stored at room temperature but this was pretty bad.
I try not to follow the “eat with your eyes first” approach (so much delicious food is not super-pretty) but this had an icky factor I just could not get by. I do hope they come up with a refrigerated version so I can buy this and enjoy it again with the unpleasant factor.
I have enjoyed Pacific Foods products before so it makes me sad I can not give this product serious props. They have come up with a non-dairy drink that is not just a milk replacement, it allows creative foodie freedom with its brilliant idea and the flavour is great. I just wish I could drink it again but can not get past the consistency and “floater” issues.
I give this product two out of five wooden spoons. (Although if you don’t mind these issues, you will probably love it.)
London Drugs has a lot of weird food products on its shelves. I don’t know why.
It is so true! Which I find exciting, especially since they’re the only ones who sell Swiss Mocha around here, Reg’s fav.
I’m impressed you gave this one a try Suzie, sorry to hear that the sediment made it not that appealing. I’m a little confused at a non-dairy beverage, and it says not a source of protein so it’s not soy but something else? I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything like this, but if I do I guess I will start somewhere else!
Instead of almond milk, it’s hazelnut milk Shannon. For some reason they’re not allowed to refer to it as “milk” though and have to call it a beverage. No soy. Just hazelnuts. Yeah, the icky factor alone is hard to get past. Although it is quite delicious. Maybe one day I can get by it but not right now.
Apparantly Silk is coming out with a cashew milk product .. am guessing that Hazelnut will not be far behind. Have you had their Dark Chocolate Almond milk? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Oh really Janet! So there won’t be any soy? I am not a fan of soy milk but I would definitely consider cashew. No, I didn’t know they had a dark chocolate almond milk. Nice!
